I don't know if there is an official ruling on this, but the new Verisign banner comes with some horrendously annoying sound effects. I find them even more offensive than strobing banners, because they represent the potential to get me in trouble at work, or perhaps even cause my neighbors to complain if I were browsing late at night as I often do, and had already turned up the volume so as to make my alarm clock wake me up.

If the management agrees, then please ask the banner host to keep "noisy" ads out of the rotation.

 
Although I haven't experienced this particular banner/issue yet myself I would have to agree and second this request.

yeah, sites that make sound are VERY bad. especially those stupid flash ads with women talking seductively about hardware 😕 (saw one on toms hardware)

The banner issue only bothers me at work really where I use HP Unix workstations that I have no control over with regards to their configuration. I am forced to use Nutscrape Nappygaytor 4.7, I hate it so much. 🙁
 
Well, just encountered it, unfortunately this was on my home computer where I run Mozilla, which for some reason had Flash installed.
I quickly got rid of the problem by getting rod of that cursed Flash plugin, useless POS :|

Anyways, I agree, that was extremely annoying, and if anything made me think even more negative things about Verisign than I already did(and considdering what I thought of them before that's quite the accomplishment).
 
I've seen it before too(althought not on this site). For the love of Mike, get rid of it.:Q
 
I just got it.....ack, there it goes again now. Thought at first that my soundcard was picking up something from the mic; didn't know what the heck it was. Bad ad. :|
