Verifying the accuracy of burned CD/DVDs?

Since I'm always picking up blank CD-Rs and DVD+Rs from the Hot Deals forum, I rarely ever use the same brand in a row. I do try to stay away from the ultra-cheap media, but I've used some blank media that was crap and didn't read properly once it had been burned.

I'm looking for a program that can read both CDs and DVDs and determine any of the data (or disc) is corrupt. I usually use Nero's verification tool after burning, but I don't always use Nero for burning. I'm really looking for a program that checks for corruption for data CDs, data DVDs, game backups, and DVD backups.

Anything like that exist?

I looked around quite a bit for the same thing. You might be able to find the thread in the archives somewhere. I eventually ended up using Nero's CD/DVD Speed in conjunction with Nero scandisk. I used a few other utilities but they didnt seem to be able to do anything that nero couldn't.

That's perfect! I didn't know that the Nero's CD-DVD Speed program had the ability to scan the discs for errors....I only thought it was for benchmarking the speed of the drives. That's what I get for not looking. 🙂

If you don't have a liteon drive then the best would be nero's cd/dvd speed. But if you have a liteon drive you can try some like kprobe. It's awesome since it's a good measure of which of the cheapo dvds I can use 🙂

Yeah, I do have 2 Liteo-on drives and do use Kprobe to determine C1/C2 errors with various DVD media. However, just because a particular brand gives me errors, does that mean that the data is corrupt? I've had DVDs with 80 or so errors, but it seemed to work fine.

Here's a pretty good link on how to interpret the data from kprobe --

Yeah. Plextor DVD drives with their special PlexTools PI/PO scanner, Lite-On CD-RW drives with CDDoctor for C1/C2 scanning, or DVD drives with KProbe for PI/PO scanning, Benq/Pioneer/Nu-Tech DVD drives with DVDInfoPro for PI/PO scanning, or Nero CDSpeed for just general CD-RW C2 error-scanning.
