Staples is selling Verbatim DVD-R 20-Pack spindle with printable tops for only $24.23. That comes out to $1.22 per disc. Sounds like a hot deal. I don't know what quality these are though. Just search for item # VER93966

Also, it looks like these normally go for about $250.00+ Check out this link to pricegrabber: Link

Even buy.com has these for $290.95: Link. No clue why every other place has them for so much more.

Sorry. I bought 1000 of them, but they only allowed me to buy 58 of tem. Guess that's why they're out of stock.

Don't worry. I don't think these were ever in stock- or if they were it was a very long time ago. This came up with the cendyne $200 dvd-r drive a couple weeks ago and they didn't have them in stock then either. Unless one of you actually got them, in which case I kick myself for not checking stock hourly for they last two weeks ;) I'd think if staples brought them back in stick they would hopefully fix the price instead of continually selling them at a $200 loss, but ya never know eh?

These discs don't work in general use DVD-R drives. They are for authoring. Read the description...

What is the difference between the general media and the ones for authoring? Can you burn movies with these?

They don't indicate that they work in general use dvd-r drives only the Pioneer S201 which is an authoring drive (it also costs $4K). The two different types of media are sensitive to slightly different laser frequencies. This prevents using the authoring media in a general-use drive and vice versa. Basically this is to prevent people from doing a bit copy of css encoded movies as the general-use media lack the ability to record to a specific portion of the disc that is a part of the css encoding. It's really a moot point since anyone who wants to copy a movie just decodes it and rewrites it to a general-use dvd without css encoding. It was probably devised before deCSS came out and showed how laughable and useless CSS was. For more complete detail see. Pioneer whitepaper on general vs authoring media

So which one is better? From what you are saying, we should buy general-use media for our own burning, right?
