We have the Verbatim (Office Max deal), the Sony (Office Depot) and the Best Buy (Universal Buslink) and they all seem to be Lite Ons! And they also seem (to me at least) to be the same thing! I only need one of the darned things! So which to buy? Which would you choose as your first burner? Any quality difference between them, or are any of them older/newer models? Any help appreciated. And as you can probably tell...I'm new here. So howdy everyone!I like the place so far.

You forgot to mention that the Sony 48x24x48 (CRX215A1) can be upgraded (including your Sony CRX210E) to 52x and after you do that you wouldn't need to use that "Turbo" feature.Originally posted by: VirtualLarry

The Sony's have a rounded tray cover that sticks out a little bit, might also be more "bulky", in case a CD does shatter in the drive. Lite-On's have a flat front. The Sony's also have this "Turbo" feature, in which you have to hold down the eject button for a few seconds after sticking in the disc, in order to use it at speeds faster than 40x. Lite-Ons don't have this restriction. Sony's come with B's Recorder, and B's UDF writer software. I think BusLink Lite-Ons come with OEM Nero. Not sure what Verbatims include.
I think that the BusLink drives that say "Smart-Burn" on the front of the box are just straight-up packaged OEM Lite-On drives bundled with Nero. Sony's have the slightly-modified firmware ("Turbo" feature), slightly more sturdy front bezel, and come bundled with B's Recorder. Not sure what the warrantee differences are, if any.
Verbatim/Cendyne (they are the same company) re-label more than just Lite-On drives, so it is a sort of chance if you actually get a Lite-On in the box. All Sony IDE CD-RWs 32x and up are modified Lite-On drives, and all BusLink drives that say "Smart-Burn" on the box are always Lite-Ons.
After all of that, my personal preference is for the generic, cheap, BusLink drives, they are usually cheaper after rebate than the Sony. I personally own the Sony CRX210E, but I didn't purchase it, it was a gift.![]()

The AOpens have an eliptical shaped door and use Just link. I have a TDK that uses Just link. Probably made for them by AOpen.Last rebage I got was a 48x12x50. Works well.
