Day-before-yesterday I went to the Rosemont show of the Blue Man Group "Complex" tour. Aside from the absolutely amazing show, I got to see a band I've never heard of before called Venus Hum.

The tickets only listed Tracy Bonham as travelling with Blue Man Group, so when she finished opening the show, everyone was expecting to see Blue Men. Then two guys came out, and a girl in this bright blue big dress and everyone was like "WTF?! Who are these people?" And seemed generally annoyed at more time away from the main attraction. THEN they started playing. The guy on the left had a keyboard and some sort of bass box or something of the like and a Apple iBook, and the guy on the right also had a keyboard, an iBook, some other thing and a microphone which he used to make some awesome sounds by clapping into it or saying things while having it distorted through the iBook, I assume. The girl was in the middle with just the microphone...The first song was only OK(called "The Bells), and still everyone didn't seem too impressed.

Then they played a song called "Hummingbirds" and the whole place went wild. It was awesome, to put it mildly. They followed with "Montana," "Sonic Boom," and possibly one more. The audience loved them, and I vowed to pick up any and all CDs of their ASAP after the concert. To me, they kind of sound like a toned-down Crystal Method with female vocals.

Afterwards(3 hour concert of stunning performances and humor), I made my way to the merchandise table. It was insanely crowded, so I just stood back for a few minutes...then I saw this one guy walking around with a couple women talking to him. It was hard to see exactly what he looked like from in the audience, but I soon figured out this was the 'guy on the right' from Venus Hum(Tony). I went up to him, told him how much I liked the performance and found out they DID in fact have a CD at the merch. table, and it was only $10 (pretty awesome, considering the cheaper T shirts were like $25 each). I immediately went and bought one(you can get them at Amazon.com for the same price), had it signed, and talked to him a little more. Really nice guy.

Then a couple Blue Men came out and played with some people in the lobby, kissed&signed tickets/merchandise(they would kiss the things and leave big lip prints of blue paint. :D) and I got my ticket kissed and signed.

All in all, it was an absolutely AWESOME concert and I HIGHLY recommend getting into a leg of this tour. I believe there's only like 10 shows, touring around the U.S. At Rosemont, there were 3 tiers of ticket prices($45, $35, and $25). I recommend ONLY going for the first two tiers, as the cheapest seats don't see anything. I got the $35 seats and was dead center in the first balcony, 3rd row from the front and saw EVERYTHING with a perfect view. Look around and see if you can get your hands on some tickets...I doubt you'll be disappointed. :)

(Note: The concert focuses on MUSIC with some theatrics, as opposed to the regularly scheduled SHOWS in Chicago, New York, Vegas, etc. focus on theatrics WITH music. This show had 3 guys on drums plus one full[HUGE] drum set, 2 guitars, 1 bass, 2 keyboards, 2-3 vocals PLUS whatever the Blue Men were doing PLUS Tracy B. and Venus Hum at the finale. :))
