Ventura County Ca, peeps... need your help

I am thinking of relocating to Ventura County or San Diego county, but know very little of Ventura area. I was a kid in Oxnard, but when I was that age, didn't care much about anythig but playtime. My folks thought the place was nice, but their info is a little outdated, sisters same problem, not to mention they hated the city. Is it a nice place to buy a house? (300k ish range) and what city to live in? A friend of mine said Oxnard is a nice little town and so is Ventura city... Anyone familiar (ie living there now) with the area putting in their input would be great.

Oxnard used to have a bad rep crime wise but that has improved in the last 10 years.Oxnard Crime I have never lived there but still go thru it every once in awhile and I'm not impressed by it. I guess it depends on where you live and hopefully someone will respond that actually lives there.

Oxnard / Ventura is really ghetto IMO. That's where people live and then they work in SB. They can't afford to live in SB so they buy a home in Ventura. It is a quick growing city though with lots of great stores. That's what I like about it. That you have any store you could need there. But the downside is, as I mentioned, really ghetto. It is because of the type of people that live in that town.

Oxnard is all farms. Better learn to speak the Spanish.

Ventura county has some decent areas but most of it is still crap. Other than the currently low(er) property values why the hell would you voluntarily move there?

Hmmm... didn't know it was that bad... It is just I can't afford a descent house in San Diego... I was looking at some houses in Oxnard, and they ran 245-390... that doesn't sound ghetto to me? Just the right side of the tracks?

Yes, Oxnard Ventura has VERY affordable housing. So does Orcutt, Santa Maria, etc. When I say ghetto I don't mean you'll get shot (a la Atlanta or D.C.), but I definitely do mean more ghetto than many typical cities and much worst than SB.

Well, to tell you the truth, now I am not so sure... Oxnard had ome to mind, but that is primarily because it is where I lived for a couple of years when I was a kid. I was just thinking of the area since there are number of jobs out there in our field and since no major college (uCSB) out there, lots of space for people who have education, or so I have been told. I looked at monster and dice and there are a lot of postings. Plus living by the beach would be nice. And as far as ghetto, I live in Riverside now. My house cost me 98k. I think I know ghetto...
