Ventrilo or TeamSpeak?

Our gaming group has outgrown Skype's 5-person limit, so we're looking to expand to either Vent or TS.

Chat group will be 6-10 people--covering 4 US/Canadian timezones, plus an Aussie. I can host a server if necessary--although I'm pretty unfamiliar with the software and whatever requirements there might be.

I can run a server off my laptop if need be--is that a good idea? (Normally wireless connection, but can plug in ethernet if that is important.)

Ventrilo's voice quality is better than Teamspeak. It's been a while since I've used Teamspeak, but with Ventrilo, you can only run your own (legal) server for up to 8 people. I have a 30-man server I pay $9/month for from DarkStar (www.darkstarllc.com). I recommend them, server has not been down ever to my knowledge.

i personally prefer ventrilo to teamspeak (playing wow and cs), however i don't know anything about servers and hosting.

Ventrilo has better voice quality...with my $5 dollar mic and headphone there is surprisely a huge difference when using Ventrilo...no background noises.

Thanks guys...looks like Ventrilo is unanimous. Might also look for an Open Source solution as well; anyone familiar with those?
