I never read the comic books, but I'm a fan of the movies. My friends collected spider man cards and the Venom cards were always some of the coolest. I'm excited for the next movie!

Venom is the alien that attached to Brook? Remind me about Carnage.

At the end of SpiderMan 2 I turned to my wife and told her that Venom would make an appearance in the next movie. I didn't know how but, only that Venom was the best villain to come out of the Spiderman series. Now I find out this is so. Sweet. If this movie is directed by the same guy who did the last one they will have another winner on their hands.

However, I didn't follow the comics closely enough to know Venom's true identity. I thought that Venom would attach to the distraught son of Peter's boss since he's an astronaut and Venom was some sort of alien. Can't pick'em all I guess.

I could just cut and paste, but I'm too lazy to do that right now. Just do a search for Venom on wiki.

I'm not so confident about the plot. Whenever they bring a lot of villians into a super hero movie, it makes the story unfocused and confusing. Remember "Batman & Robin" ?The exception to this is the x-men series but the x-men are group of people rather than a lone hero so it works in that series.

Agree, too many villians = not enough character development.

venom should be good, though I bet there will be people out there who will be pissed because he is not a "classic" spiderman enemy.

Venom was created by an alien slime thing that was brought back from outspace Peter's boss's son (who is an astronaut). It first attaches to peter and gives him better powers, but he gets rid of it after it starts controlling him or something. Then it finds it's way to Eddie Brock (creating Venom) who is a jealous coworker of Peter.

I thought he was? A la Maximum Carnage part of the series. Sorry, I used to read and collect spider man comics as a kid.

FYI - This story of course is completely made up for the movie, it has nothing to do with what happened in the comic.

aside from where it came from. It's pretty much on the dot with the comic book series no? (what I said, not what's in the movie. Movies has never been accurate)

Yes.

And Carnage comes from when Brock was in jail with Cletus Kasady. The suit comes back to Brock, but a piece "breaks" off and bonds itself with Kasady. They're a bit different though. Venom is more like two beings, whereas Carnage stays as a single individual. Carnage is also stronger.
