Venice on Socket 754?

I am confused with all the names AMD came out recently like New Castle, Venice ..etc. I always thought Venice core is only available on socket 939. But today when browing Newegg, I came across this: Venice on Socket 754 for $139.

Want to check with guru here at anandtech to see if there is actually venice on 754, or if this is Newegg messing up.

Thanks.

Well, doing a google on "ADA3000BXBOX", bunch of stuff come up from foreign sites with things like socket 754 and 90nm CPU. Isn't clawhammer manufacutered on 130nm process?

Almost seems like they finally put out a 90nm A64 for the s754 platform. The 3000+ claims it runs at 2ghz. Imagine a cheap 3000+ with a 10x multiplier on the 90nm process + overclocking?

That'd be nice.

*Edit*
$112 on eWiz, if this is the same thing.

The sempron 64 is based on the venice core. You'll notice that it has sse3 enabled. I almost bought one yesterday at Fry's with nforce3 board for $80. But I just don't need another cpu/mobo combo from Fry's. Bought too many already.

would rather buy a 2800+ for 75 bux and oc the hell out of it to about 2.4Ghz. Sempron is king of price performance

actually the 90nm SSE3 enabled A64 S754 has been out for somewhile now. the "Newark" core comes in 3400 and 3700 and both have 1mb cache, but they're so hard to find.

 OMGWTFAFAIKFTW! With such a high multiplier and potential overclockability coupled with a socket 754 board that can do 300MHz system bus, and you have a potential 3GHz $112 A64 CPU!!!

ADA3000AXBOX OR ADA3000BXBOX

That's what Ewiz says, so you'd get Newcastle or Venice - no guarantees beyond that, but if true then this is cheaper and faster than the Sempron 3400+ (identical except 256k cache).

well just have to wait for a review, or until someone buys one. i'm really curious how well of a overclocker this will be.

Anyone have one of these yet? ... do boards need a bios update?

I have a DFI UT nf3 250gb that's been sitting around doing nothing for a while.

It is true. There are actually three .09 micron socket 754 CPUs, however only the Venice 754 A64 3000 seems to be available in the retail market. Check out www.amdcompare.com to see the models. If you set the filters to A64, .09 micron and socket 754 you'll see the results.

Ok, check out AMD's website on the "venice" S754's

3000+ 2.0gig 512k E6 core
3200+ 2.0gig 512k E6 core ( WTF? the 3000 and 3200 are the same?)
3400+ 2.4gig 512k E3 core (no part umber listed though, possibly on the way?)

that's not bad(500mhz oc from stock), i have 3200 newcastle running at 2550mhz @ 1.6v on a DFI nf3, i can get 2600mhz, but it takes 1.7+v to do that.

I give back this venice, becouse I want better oc. I saw on one of russian oc pages that new athlon on venice core can be overclocked to 2650mhz at default vcore! Now I have Sempron 2800+ 64bit palermo(venice with 256cache) and I overclocked this cpu to 2640mhz @ 1.6v... If next athlon will be worse than previous, I leave my sempron

PS=> I apologize for my errors, I dont know english well

There are a few reviews now on Newegg on this $139 socket 754 Venice (see link in the original post). It is indeed socket 745, and E6 Venice core. The cpu is 2Ghz, and they should OC to 2.5 pretty easily....kinda tempted to upgrade the sempron 2600+ I got just 2 month ago....dang.

Oh and one of the reviewer has Epox nforce3 250 mobo, and was able to install without bios update. So I imaging you wouldn't need a bios update for ur DFI.

You did just fine friend. Good luck with your overclocking!

Anybody else get one of these? I'm tempted to pick one up to play around with.

754 fo' life! (Or until I have some extra money 🙂 )
