Venice 3000+ Instability Problems

Hey guys,

So, as you may know, I recently set up my Athlon 64 3000+ Venice system, with 1GB Corsair Value RAM, 7800GTX, eVGA SLI mobo, in an Antec P180. Computer runs fine in Windows for days on end, but freezes within 20 minutes in Far Cry, and an hour in BF:2. I ran Prime95 from 6:30AM to 3:00PM, 100% CPU load, 780MB RAM usage the entire time, with no problems. Games, however, freeze up.

So, I'm thinking its something to do with the video card, though I don't know what. Theres no other cards that could be blocking airflow to the GPU, and the latest chipset and video drivers are installed. Any ideas?

EDIT: Forgot to mention, my PSU is a 430W Antec TruePower 2.0, brand new, and I'm 100% confident it is not the PSU. My comptuer reports 12.1V on the 12V rail.

My first guess would be your psu, but you say it's fine..

What's the 12v rail voltage when you game ?

Another guess would be heat related ? What's your video card temp when it fails ?

Never more then 65-70 on the GPU...so I don't see it being temp related either?

I have a similar system, specs below. Same problem sometimes. Memtest is ok, ran prime for about 8hrs. But occasionaly BF2 will crash/restart pc after a while. Right now i downclocked my CPU OC a bit, hopefully that'll keep it from crashing.

i suggest memtest to check your ram...CW42 and SLCentral both have a commonality in their RAM being Corsair Value.

If you do the blend, that doesn't show stability for your CPU at all. Small FFTs is where it's at.

Thanks for the tip: running Small FFT right now (and have been for the past 10 minutes or so). So far, temp's have gone up three degrees (53 CPU, but my mobo is known to inflate 10C), and everything's looking fine.

That reminds me of Video card overheating
Use RivaTuner the program's built in temperature statistic function to check GPU temperature over duration of your game.
