Venice 3000+@2.5GHz vs. P4 506 2.66@3.2GHz

I used the HardwareOC benchmark tool to see which would give better results:
vid card was the one in the sig. Settings were 1280x1024, 4xAA, 4xAF, ultra quality, all other settings diabled.

Well, 3000+ takes 3 and P4 takes 3. What I noticed was that the P4 seemed to struggle a bit in outdoor environments except Volcano. And also, the memory was tweaked for the 3000+ but was not for the P4 (add maybe 1-3fps to the P4 scores). When the 3000+ did win, it won by a fair margin though.

I personally love the 3000+ and is gonna stay as my main gaming rig. I bought the P4 for a Shuttle XPC SB83G5 so I can hook it up to my widescreen and game a bit but I can't decide whether to keep it or not. Those results aren't helping me decide.

Any opinions?

What speeds are you video card set at? Scores look way low - need to replicate before forming an opinion.

Card was set at 510core and 570mem. I did the tests several times and those were the average of the results. Even with 4xAA and 4xAF the scores are low?

Testing at 1280x1024 is mostly GPU dependent, if you want to isolate the CPU effect drop to the minimum res 480x640 or 600x800 and rerun your benches

I know that's true but I would never play at those resolutions anyway. The lowest I would go is probably like 1024x768.

I know that the majority of the time, the 3000+ will beat the P4 for gaming, I just wanna know that the difference between the two is not like 30-40fps. I can live with a 10fps deficit as long as the minimum stays above about 30.

One question, if I drop the resolution, the fps for BOTH cpus will go up correct? It's just that the 3000+ would probably take a larger lead? Is that right?

Yes the FPS would go up for both CPU's, and in theory the results wouldn't change the margins would just get larger. And the percentage differences would more closely reflect true CPU performance
