Venezuela seizes oil rigs owned by US company

What will the Obama administration do in reaction to this?

I'm guessing one of two things. Nothing, or send some high ranking officials in to find out how they did it. Just in case information such as that could be useful some day. Just in case, that's all.

Obama will have a beer summit with his best buddy and declare a job well done.

There should be quite a bit of outrage over this, but there won't be because people will feel it's justified due to the gulf leak. This is fucking ridiculous and we shouldn't allow Venezula to get away with this.

Maybe we should nationalize Citgo and sell its assets to Chevron, Exxon, Phillips, etc.?

(not advocating this as it would open up a bad can of worms, but it would be a significant retaliation and start a trade war)

Just bomb them to hell and back with some cruise missles or something like that. If they want to commit an act of war then lets get it on.

Wait a minute. Venezuela already started the trade war. The United States taking over Citgo doesn't start the war, it just means we start fighting back - and I don't think that's the way to do it. It's not Citgo's fault that Venezuela won't pay its bills on time.

from the article in the OP

U.S. State Department spokesman Mark Toner said he hopes Helmerich & Payne is compensated and suggested the takeover and other recent nationalizations are scaring off private investment in Venezuela.

"We would just call on them, if they did make such a move, to compensate the owners of those wells," Toner said. "This is the latest in such an instance where international investors, their investments are being nationalized by the government of Venezuela. It doesn't speak or bode well for the investment climate there."

Helmerich & Payne is not the only oil services company to have complained about a delay in payments. Dallas-based Ensco International Inc. said last year that it had suspended oil drilling operations off Venezuela's Caribbean coast because Venezuela owed it $35 million — prompting PDVSA to take over the company's operations.

Wow.. so all we are going to is call up Hugo and ask for them to pay for the rigs they just stole, and it in the process send them the message its ok to be in debt US based companies and to take their property.

also, The state Dept guy sounds like moron. I mean to suggest that take overs and nationalization would impact foreign investors is just the dumbest thing I've ever heard. <sarcasm>

America.. Fuck ya! I think not 🙁

1: Don't invest in a location where Chavez can reach you. AKA, don't be stupid.

2: Our own pack of wolves are likely chomping at the bit to learn how to do this here.

Freakin' garbage. I'll volunteer to go straight to Venezuela from Afghanistan. Chavez has lasted long enough.

We should tell Venezuela if they dont release the rigs we will just blow them up with our bombers, and let the companies claim a loss on their assets, which they will probably do anyway.

They want to seize 11 oil rigs and nationalize them. We should protect the assets just to make sure our assets are protected. We should start by seizing all their banking assets. Send some destroyer groups and aircraft carrier down there to protect our property. If we cant protect our property, then destroy them.

When they see our navy ships and submarines showing up maybe they will sing a different tune. We can bomb a few of their refineries also just to show them we mean business. Just use cruise missles or some drones to hit the targets.

Another point is that if this company can operate 11 oil rigs then how come we cant do the same off of our coasts? We should get this company to take over BP's mess!

No, we should not blow up "US" property.
We should bomb the fuck out of their property until they release the rigs.

Question: why would the company who's assets are getting stolen not just rig the place up with explosives and blow it up?
