Venezuela Hyperinflation Index Reaches the One Million Mark

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...rinflation-index-reaches-the-one-million-mark

Bloomberg Cafe Con Leche Index, a coffee cost 450 bolivars. Or that today’s price is the equivalent of almost one-fifth of the monthly minimum wage. Or that to buy a cup with the most common bill in circulation -- the 100-bolivar note -- you’d need to gather up a stack of 10,000 of them.

They need to parachute Jeffery Sachs in there stat, damn. I wish Steeplerot still posted here. There’s no way this ends in anything other than the collapse of he government and starting over, I wonder how long the people have to starve before that happens.

Unfortunately the government did a gun grab and disarmed the population completely. So this is going to get a whole lot worse before it gets better. Really since the citizens are disarmed its going to take a foreign military stepping in to solve this. Its just a matter of how bad do things get before that happens.

Well why don't you sign up and head on down there?

Honestly I think this just goes to show the failures of capitalism and how and over reliance on a free market economy fails everyone but the 1%. If Venezuela has social programs the people wouldn’t be starving.

That's how Socialist Paradises work.

Wat? Venezuela is a far cry from a capitalistic environment. This shows that heavy handed state intervention + corruption + lack of planning implodes economies - not that that should surprise anyone

You fell for it. Unfortunately, Venezuela doesn't demonstrate that socialized programs don't work. There are myriad reasons why they failed in Venezuela, and mostly things are so bad because of doubling down and corruption rather than adaptation to changing approach in the setting of increased oil supply outside of Venezuela. But no matter what they still would have been pretty bad off. Especially because that same government control and corruption runs their oil production, preventing them from trying to be more competitive there.

That is the problem with Socialism though. Capitalism requires that you corrupt everything if you want to control everything. Socialism just requires that you corrupt the government. If you have a free market, capitalism, and democracy then you have historically the best chance of dealing with corruption.

What do you think happened first outlawing guns or discrediting the free press?

Excellent point. If you want to preserve rights you should preserve the rights that help support the others. If the argument for guns is that they guard from tyranny, then you have to admit that others might and do as well. Its just that one does not result in death.

Also, people who are so against guns should realize that you might want to keep the First as unrestricted as possible, as it is the first line of defense so we don't have to get to using violence.

The "liburl" media is not free, its controlled by the elites who are trying to hide the truth. Only Trump and some guy named Murdoch care about giving you the entertainment er news you need.

I would imagine discrediting the free press but ill ask my buddy who immigrated here right as this was all starting and let you know his thoughts on the subject.
