RPGs seem to be a dead art nowadays, people don't have the time they used to, our society killed them. Japan is a wholenother story...

Yes, because games like Mass Effect, Dragon Age, The Witcher, Risen, Oblivion etc. etc. are just non-existent.

Naah, Dragon Age and The Witcher, both very good recent RPGs.

Yea, but do you remember the days when RPGs would actually be best sellers? Final Fantasy, Pokemon, Warcraft, etc.

Current day RPGs are all thrown behind a massive pile of first person shooters and MMOs.

I don't think we'll see classics again like Planescape Torment or classic BG games, anyway Ventica caught my interest because I played and enjoyed Risen and hopefully this game turns out to be decent enough for the price I paid.

RPGs are still going pretty strong and we have plenty of new RPG releases coming down the road in 2011.

Japan is a completely different story, and so are 12 year olds. 90% of the games you find in Japan are RPGs/Story driven.

Uh...of those three you listed for flashback time, two are Japanese and 1 is either an MMO or an RTS.

japan doesn't do rpgs anymore, just interactive movies.

how about an actual dead genre: space combat sims. last one was what, freespace 2? i'd like a good mech combat game too.

Fallout 3 was a best seller and shipped 5 million copies in it's first months, not including online sales.

Hum the review is really negative (it was also very negative towards risen) but the video was not so bad. Is this a very long game; well Mem please comment when you have a chance to play; in usa it will not be available till Jan. Alas atari is the publisher (a death wish for any game) but hopefully they will also distribute it via steam or gog or impulse (atari did a freaking bad job with the last couple of games I purchased; had to go to the developers to get patches and other stuff the publisher should have provided in addition they tack on their own worthless drm).

You might be right, I hope you're wrong.

I was talking with the co-author of Zork (and other Infocom games), and asked him if interactive fiction could be commercially revived, don't see why not.

He said he really thinks it's gone for good.

Looks like it isn't coming to the US for PC any time soon, GoGamer isn't importing it and Amazon only lists an Xbox version out in January.

This game looks like a Fable clone. Still, I am def interested!

Cant believe some say there is very little PC games coming out for PC platform as opposed to consoles... there are more games that came out recently than I can possibly play in the next 3 years, if not more. Those that say PC Gaming is dying:

1)Have way too much time on their hands and need to get a job. A real job.
2)Are probably pirating games, play a little of literally everything and are spoiled by the sheer variety.

Some time ago I was almost ready to believe that there are LESS good games coming out for PC... but that was until I played STALKER, Witcher, Mass Effect and Dragonage. Some of these actually manage to come close to the greatness Planescape: Torment achieved back in the day. That's quite a feat!

Well..if you can understand GERMAN - there is a demo [direct link to the demo at filefront as gamershell was too frikken slow]:

http://www.filefront.com/thankyou.php?f=14686857

English version unknown.

edited - tried the demo a bit [I understand maybe 2 or 3 words - just enough to reverse mouselook and what "Ja" means in the options] - feels very much like Risen. I do hope an english version [demo too] is released...

I look forward to your comments on the game once you have a chance to play :) My hope is that it is some where between baulder gate and dungeon siege; perhaps not quite as much depth as the later but certainly more depth than the former with much better game play than avencast :)
