More videos are in my channel. It doesn't automatically show them as related. :(

I did like the gameplay there, seems a lot like SC which is a good thing. I bought this title yesterday and looking forward to giving it a go after I finish playing CoD 4 that is. :)

It's not all that like SC. Movement is very restricted, animations are clunky, if a guard turns on you you're fucked and can't attack worth a damn (Fisher could just knock them out), and your sneak speed is way too slow - you just can't catch up to someone who's walking unless you break into a walk yourself and then the guard turns and you're fucked because you can't attack. You also can't save whenever you like, which means listening to convos over and over again when you have to restart certain sections.

Can't you adjust the sneak speed like in SC by rolling the mouse-scroll? It's pretty stupid if you can't knife the enemy up-close (even if you get noticed). I remember in Chaos Theory you could just quickly run to an enemy and have Fisher stab the enemy or do a throat slash. Perhaps I'm expecting too much, but if your building a stealth game then the sneak attacks have to be solid.

Edit: Just installed the game a while ago, lets see how it goes! :)

no, i haven't heard of any other stealth based WWII games, which is the originality that's going for this game. but it's still fighting the damn nazis, still using the same clunky, loud weapons, still in europe, etc.

you could do so much with a stealth game... ninjas in post industrial japan? space ninjas? black ops ninjas? drow elf ninjas? secret society ninjas? future high tech ninjas? does it really have to be another WWII game? it can even be any other war... in the history of the world... but i had to be WWII?

If there's one thing that's been done more than WWII in video games, it's probably ninjas :p

i always have to wonder why guards in dark warehouses are never given flashlights, or if they do have them, why they don't use them...

Later levels have guards with flash lights and they are a mega-bitch.

Game sucks... If you get seen by a guard as they are turning around(because you can't move faster than guards even at 5 star stealth speed) you have to either be super pro and pull out your pistol and pop them in the head(this move is impossible) or get knocked the fuck out. What will happen is this: Guard turns around, you move behind them fast as you can stealth-like... You are slower than the guard, just how the game is, and the guard ends up turning around before you can knife him in the back even though you did EVERYTHING RIGHT... he slams you in the head and you die. You will have this happen to you about ten times per level.

These facts make this game unappealing :/

It makes the game really annoying. It feels like work and not fun. It's such a rush when you actually do EVERYTHING right the first time though. Like you make it through so much on the first time getting it right... You just keep thinking, "How long until stupid shit happens and then I have to redo this?"

Idk, I just want to put in a cheat and get infinite bullets because this shit would go over way better if I had unlimited ammo.

Nope, no adjusting sneak speed. And you have to go into a special "aiming mode" in order to shoot or even knife someone. So if a guy turns on you, you have to turn off sneak mode, turn on aiming mode, and then you can try stabbing him. But by this time you're already almost dead.

I played a con demo and got killed like 100x on the first mission bit where you have to get two guards. Ugh, non-stealth killing is impossible!

Well, I tried the game, and it's just not really fun for me. I can typically take out one guy, but if there's two people in one room, it becomes really difficult, even with the morphine. What really sucks with the morphine is that it wears off once you kill someone. So while I got the first guy, the other just starts shooting or hits me once I get close enough to try and swing my knife.

Good thing I didn't buy the game, I really don't think it would have been worth it. =/

And the damn pistol sucks too. It shoots so incredibly slow.

Even with infinite ammo the game still sucks, only now it's just barely bearable. The character sucks at aiming (even worse than Sam Fisher, which is impressive), and the suppressed pistol sucks as well, shoots slow, and only has 7 shots.

This just isn't a good game. The stealth elements are inconsistent and flat out broken at times.

Now that I think about it, I don't believe that any stealth game can succeed without nonlinear movement, meaning restriction to just flat surfaces (the ground). Unlike a FPS, you can't rely on your weapons or health to brute force a situation linearly. You've got to rely much more on the environment, which means more movement and interactivity:

Thief, Splinter Cell, Riddick: you could climb, hang, drop down on enemies, neutralize light sources, whistle, throw stuff, etc. With this game you can only neutralize very few light sources, whistle (which causes enemies to RUN to your location), and you can't do any of the rest. You're simply limited to shadow areas in an otherwise linear path. Combine this with weapons that suck, sneaking that's too slow, and ineffective melee, and you've got a failed stealth combo.

This game knows it sucks that's why it focuses on making the character so hot...

The character's not even that. And she doesn't have much of a personality either. With action FPS' it's ok if your character's just a personality-less moving weapon of mass destruction because the endless frenzied destruction keeps the player occupied. With stealth I feel like the player feels more related to the protagonist. Riddick acts like a bad ass but he's still got a soft side. Sam Fisher has a conscious and doesn't kill indiscriminately. Agent 47 is a perfectionist and uses elegant, precision events to get the job done. Garrett in Thief is a true neutral / evil neutral and wants to be left alone.

Riddick: LOADS of personality.
Sam Fisher: Dude's awesome, dry humor and all.
Agent 47: He's like Spock. More or less emotionless but there's just something likeable about him.

Velvet Assassin? Uhhhhh....

Okay, so I started playing yesterday and I'm beginning to get pissed! Why the hell can't I move a tad faster in sneak mode? Do I always need to hold down the sneak key, why isn't there a toggle option for it?

OK, I must have been under a ROCK for the last 6 years.

Huge Thief One fan... (except the zombies)
Moderate Thief 2 fan
Huge Hitman 1 Fan...
Was waiting for this game, velvet assasin, with much anticipation.

Ummmm, I appear to have missed the Splinter Cell series. So I need a quick update please. Multiple games are available it seems, in various places. Looking for reviews, and it is a very mixed bag. I value AT opinions MUCH more than Amazon, BB, etc etc. LOL the one SC game had 1 star rating. the first 40 reviews were all half stars about Secure Rom or DRM.
So which SC is the best? Hell, which is first? Should I play in order? No matter?

One caveat, Vin Diesel is growing on me. In the begining he was WAY too over the top in his acting, so I avoided "Riddick" at all costs. If you have an opinion on that series as well, chime in. That series (Riddick) appears older (Based upon I find less reviews), and not as good as SC based upon the past 30 minutes I have done of searching.

SC looks like I can be Jack Bauer .:D

The Splinter Cell series in order:

Splinter Cell
Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow
Splinter Cell Chaos Theory
Splinter Cell Double Agent

Splinter Cell Conviction ( To be released in 2009 hopefully)

I've played all of them (just a big fan of the series). The best one out of them is Chaos Theory IMO. You should play the first 3 ones for sure...great stealth games.

Wow - I guess most of you forgot you can use Morphine if the crap hits the fan or that you can run through a door to "reset" enemies that see you. Most of the areas are small - so running away into another area is a viable option.

Stealth isn't broken - the game is all about using the shadows to your advantage - you're a glass canon so yeah - you're gonna get beat down if you're stupid enough to get caught. :)

Wao, didn't realize that running through a door to a different area in the map will reset the enemies...will try it next time I get noticed by the damn guards. Thanks for the tip!
