Just my $.02, I auditioned this at HiFi Buys. I was not impressed, but there are some reasons why:

1.The track of Harry Potter they were playing was not very good for lower freq's.
2.They were using the high level inputs, vice the line level in with LFE. I'm sure switching to the line level inputs would result in better performance.
3.The room was very large, 20x30 at least with the sub in along the middle of the wall. This sub would most likely sound much better in a smaller room, in a corner perhaps.

As always, the best test is in your own environment with your equipment. If you have a HiFi Buys near you, it might make more sense to "test" it out from them. If you like it, return it and purchase from 6ave and J and R.

Considering Velodynes reputation, this should be a killer deal. YMMV however.

Anyone own this care to comment? I was set to buy this, but was kinda deterred when I heard it in the store.

Tom, you've brought up a good point. Being a 10" subwoofer, there are going to be several limitations - even if Velodyne makes it. There's no way a 10" driver will be able to get low enough - unlike 12" and 15" drivers. I've never heard this particular Velodyne, so I can't add too many more comments.

However, there have also been some good reports on the 10" subwoofer from PartsExpress. The sub was recently revised and the previous 10" sub was better rated than the famous Sony SAW-M40 subwoofer - which was also a great bargain.

I have the parts express sub right now in my sound system, I love it

I doubt it would be good for home theater uses, but it is very musical

My setup:
M-Audio Audiophile 24/96 -> Apogee Wyde Eye Digital Cable -> Channel Island VDA1+VAC1 DAC -> DIY Fine Silver Interconnects -> NAD C740 Receiver -> DIY Speaker Cable -> Parts Express Dayon BR-1's and Vance Dickason Sub

Bump for what sounds to be a great unit! Velodyne is great entry-level audiophile-grade equipment that makes it to the pages of Stereophile Magazine. I have a 10" CT100 from a couple years back that is similar, but with a 375w amp- sweet sub.

Not to burst anyones bubble, but Velodyne like most sub makers, includes the "surround" the rubber piece that holds the cone to the voice coil in its measurements. In its new top of the line Velodyne DD series, the 10 inch has an 8 inch cone, the 12" has a 9.7 inch cone, the 15 inch has a 12.7 inch cone, and the 18 inch has a 15.2 inch cone. I got this from the Velodyne web site.

Don't get me wrong. The subwoofer made the single biggest difference in my system both for music and of course for movies. I hope you folks don't live in an apartment like I do. The neighbors hate my subwoofer (I'll let the subwoofer take the blame). It's a little stunning that there is a Velodyne for $148 and the new DD 18 streets for $3,200 and only weighs 120 pounds.

This isn't a subwoofer. It's a powered woofer. It's only rated down to 36 hz. That's not low enough for deep bass. It will however add boom to your system if you want to crank the volume on it.

Look at the frequency response on the other 10" Velodyne sub (SPL1000) that they have for $1,399. It goes down to 24 hz. That's a subwoofer. Even the CHT10 10" sub for $399 goes down to 28 hz. That's not too bad for the money. Still.. I'd only use a sub like this for Home Theater and not music.

You get what you pay for basically. If you have an inexpensive Home Theater rig (Bose like HT) with bookshelf speakers and want to add a little boomy bass for impact, this is probably the sub for you. Otherwise, I'd look elsewhere.

BTW.. Does anyone know the regular list on this sub?

Knowing 6ave, you'll probably end up with a scratch and dent item and it will be like pulling teeth to do an exhange or refund.

If I were going to spend $1,399 on a sub, it would be the SVS PB2-PLUS. (2) 12" drivers and a 900 watt BASH amplifier. Actually, the price is $1,199 plus $100 for shipping. Link: SVS Subwoofer

However, since we're talking about budget subs, I'd still spring for the Parts Express 10" sub, or find a 12" Sony SAW-M40. People are selling the Sony for about $120 (shipped) for used subs - and you still might be able to find new ones on Ebay. But, for a bedroom system, I think the 10" Velodyne might make a great sub for use in such a room.

W00ters, I just ordered this sucker for my tightly enclosed dorm room. I have become sort of an audiophile w/ a tight budget so I hope this meets my expectations and I hope I rattle some of my fellow residents ears :) Thnx for the post bro .
and this concludes my first post
