Velodyne Sub CT-120 $489 at Onecall.com

I am sick of seeing this Sony Sub thread continue so I am going to put up a nice sub. Here is the link. This is $40 dollars cheaper than you could buy it in Circuit City. Shipping is 50.18--expensive. Not too much cheaper than in the store after that but heck, it's better than a Sony. Someone better me on this deal.

This site also has sunfire subwoofers--almost the best on the market but very expensive.

next time try to brag on the things that are similar in price range.

I know Velodyne makes a good quality subs but hey........your comparing between $120 and $489 subwoofers.......nonsense.

Im glad im not the only one who doesnt think that the sonys and the JBLs from the other tread are wonders they are being made out to be. Does no one wonder why they cost so little? and why they dont work for long, those JBLs i mean.

Siamskunk,
I knew someone was going to say that. I should have written it in my message. The only problem is you can't get a good sounding sub for that price. They are horrible. Maybe in a bedroom (8' x 8') they might sound ok but you have to get into the $300 price range before a sub is acceptable for a digital surround sound system. I apologize for the big price difference.

I got your point, just that I wanted to make it clear so that others who don't know much about audiophile don't get confused.

btw, I would love to get this puppy if I had enough money 😉

btw, I knew you were gonna come and clarified your point.

Remember Onecall does pricematch if you call them. You can get a good deal if you can call around to some competitors (Uncle's Stereo, Soundcity) and then pricematch one to another. 🙂

I bought a Sony DB930 receiver from them a while back and it was VERY easy to price match. They didn't seem to even check my quote because I fudged it a little and they still matched it. Now don't anyone go trying to tell them you got a quote of $149 for a $1000 receiver because they ain't gonna buy it. I told them my lowest quote was like $20 lower than it really was and they just asked me what store (it was Soundcity I think.)

On the Sony/JBL/Velodyne/Others note, not all of us want to spend BIG $$$$ on a speaker system even if we can afford it. I ended up buying a pair of the Sony MF515's for my home theater setup. Are they the best speakers in the world? No, but they are only $200-$250 a PAIR. I personally think that someone who spends over a $1000 a speaker is loony-toony. 🙂 At the same time I'm sure that there are some here that can't believe I 'wasted' my money on a pair of cheap Sony speakers.

Velodyne makes great subs! I got the CT-140 and it is great!

I got it for around $440 shipped from someone who posted on this board a long time ago that was organizing a group buy.

Anyone seriously considering spending $500 on a sub should certainly consider the HSU VTF2 produced by HSU Research.

There is a Cerwin Wega 10" 100 watts home sub at Mercata. Running at 215 bucks on their Powerbuy feature. With MSN's deal and if you still have some free money left from signing up. Looks pretty good. MSRP $399, currently sells for 299 or 249.

Onecall has always had great CS as far as I am concerned. I bought a Velodyne FSR18(a MONSTER SUB) for about a grand and when it arrived, one corner of the sub was slightly damaged. Not really surprising since this sub weighs 80lbs+. They said if I wanted to keep it they would credit my card back 300 bucks. Higher end Velodyne subs can be crazy expensive, so at $700, and shipped 2 day air, this worked out to be an awesome deal. And as far as anyone spending over a grand on speakers being crazy, I must be frekin out of my mind because I have 6 or 7 grand in speakers staring at me right now.....😉

Why do you say that you have to spend over $300 dollars to get a good sub? Try out the Adire Audio Shiva or Tempest. They cost less than $150 shipped to your door. I still haven't found a bad review of them.

Good comment about the shiva. You can build your own, and create an outstanding sub for very little $$.This thread is a good starting place if you are up to it. It can really work out to be a hot deal!

One thing to keep in mind if you are going to compare a shiva homebuilt subwoofer to this velodyne is that the velodyne comes completely built, with amp. Sure a shiva is $115+shipping but if you add a 150W amp you are talking another $150 plus the MDF and extras. So probably around $300 conservatively.

Not trying to discourage anyone, but building a subwoofer out of a shiva isn't cheap either.

On the other hand if you want to talk performance, I bet a $300 shiva setup would sound better than the velodyne. I can't wait to finish mine. 🙂
