My understanding is this, the year sticker goes in the upper right, the month goes in the upper left. The month sticker isn't replaced, at least in Arizona. Year stickers are updated every 1 or 2 years, depending on what you registered/paid for. Year stickers go over top the old stickers, leaving the plate with just two stickers in the upper corners.

Why do I sometimes see vehicles with half a dozen Year stickers stuck all over the plate?

This is how it works in Virginia too.

People are stupid.

Or just plain fucking lazy.

I take the time every year to remove the previous year's sticker, clean the plate thoroughly, then put on the new sticker...then, I take a razor blade and score the new sticker so it can't be removed in one piece. (yes, theft of registration stickers is fairly common in many states...I've done this for decades)

Huh, I've never heard of that (stealing stickers). Scoring it with a razor is a good idea though.

I had someone cut the corner of the plate off so they could take the sticker.

Here in TX the sticker goes on the inside of the windshield (lower left) so it cannot be easily stolen.

Aren't the stickers pre-scored? They are in NC, but I can't remember if they were like that in California.

I'd have to look at mine, but in Ohio i'm pretty sure our stickers have the month, year and the actual license plate number on the sticker so stealing it would be a waste of time

Nope...which is actually a good thing. If they were pre-scored, way too many fumble-fingered idiots like me would fuck them up trying to put them on the plates...and I'm sure, DMV being the kind-hearted folks that they are, the fee for replacing a damaged registration sticker would be minimal... IIRC, we've lived in a few places where the stickers were partially peforated, but not Kahleeforneeya.

Here, our plates have a month sticker and a year sticker. You replace the year sticker only. It has a number on it...but it is not the same as the plate number.

My last sticker was definitely pre-scored. I was trying to put it on my wife's car and it was askew, and when i tried to undo it and line it up, it started to come apart, so now the 2011 on my wife's car is tilted. :p

 I don't remember that...but I've slept since I put the sticker on last...(in June) I should be getting the sticker for my car any day, I'll check.

Fuck...it wouldn't be the first time I was wrong about something...and I'm sure it won't be the last. :p

Haha just be sure to line that sucker up straight the first time you put it on the plate.

Ditto NY. And, except for 2 or 3 years where their adhesive sucked, you're NOT stealing the sticker unless you steal the windshield. It's a pita to remove the old sticker; but at least they're secure.

In FL there is one single sticker. It goes on the upper right. It has both month and year on it.

FL replaces license plates every five years, so at the very least you'll only see 1 sticker in each corner, and one in the middle. You know when they go to renew they get a new plate.

People who do this are retarded and lazy.
