Can Vehicle Diagnostic Tools be "borrowed" from auto places? I have a service engine light soon lit on my wife's Nissan Sentra, and I want to make sure it's not something stupid like the gas cap sensor before I bring it in.

I thought I read a thread in here where someone went to AutoZone and they let him use it in the parking lot for free.

I called Pep Boys, and they have no clue what I'm talking about.

it's called an obd II scanner. and yes vato zone will scan you for free. or you can buy one from amazon for cheap:
