so i'm going to vegas for the first time since ive turned 21. anyone got any tips for me? gonna be there for 2 nights...

GO TO FAT TUESDAYS (take the escalator down in the lobby of the MGM grand), GET A BIG DRINK WITH AND EXTRA SHOT OF EVERCLEAR IN IT, WALK AROUND, ENJOY LIFE AS YOU DRINK ON THE STREETS.

Betting on booze guarantees results. Betting on gambling is a waste.

If you want to see all the really nice theme casino's, go to the strip. If you want to play cheap, like nickel and penny slots and video poker, go downtown.

Do you already have a room reserved?
Where are you staying?

If not, look around, you can get some pretty good deals.

EDIT: Oh, and if you are playing video poker or slots, pick the machines that are in the most visible places. Like on the end of the row, next to the aisles that get a lot of foot traffic. To give the impression that people are winning, casino's put the highest payout machines in the most visible locations and put the lowest payout machines in the back where nobody can see you losing. They want people walking through the casino to hear the coins and see the flashing lights when there is a jackpot.

Go to this club in MGM grant, it's really good. There's a bridge connecting New York New York and MGM Grant, if you want in there it's on your right.

I think the charm of Vegas really is in the shows and exotic things you can do. You might want to check out some of those shows. Go search for Las Vegas shows in google and book your tickets early. Gambling quickly get old if that's the only thing you do in vegas.

I was there 2 weeks ago, and celine dion was doing a show there.

If you want a lot of free drinks play pai gow poker. Your money can last a long time and they will serve you as long as you are playing.

learn to play it.
it will pay you eventually.

Yeah I hear that when it wants to pay you, it WILL pay you.

My dad tested this by purposely throwing away two pair, and he drew into a flush... :Q

the only poker ive ever played is texas hold-em

Loved the Penn & Teller show at Rio.

Sunday champaign brunch at the Alladin can't be beat.

Check out Freemont street at night if you've never seen it before. Walk around downtown for awhile, then head back to the lights of the strip.

Liberace museum was pretty cool.

There is a replica of the Simpson's house fairly close if you get bored. You could drive by and see it.

its just 5 card draw poker.
if its jacks or better, and you have a low pair like a pair of 6's; always keep it.
go for that 3 or 4 of a kind, or whatever else it might to give you.
stick to one strategy.
dont ditch the pair of 6s because you have a J and K or something.
thats how i play. i dont do too bad.

This is important, so pay attention!

Ok, so you have 500 in playing money, and two nights to play.

1. Divide your money into two seperate stakes: 250 per night. The money for night 1 can only be used on night 1. The money for night 2 can only be used on night 2.
2. Pick a reasonable number, say $50. This will be your upper limit. Whenever you are up $50, take that money and put it away. It will be out of play for the rest of the trip and you will be back to your original $250 stake for the night.
3. Budget your money so you have enough to spread across all the games you want to play. Play nickel slots for some free drinks. Then play blackjack or craps at a busy table to maxamise the odds, fun, and comps.
4. At the end of the night, take whatever money is leftover, and put it away. It will be out of play for the rest of the trip, and it will go home with you.

Anyway, the thing about vegas is this: 90% of the people gambling in a casio will be up at some point during the night. But 75% of those people won't stop until they have pissed their winnings away. If you follow my system and set money aside when you are ahead, then I guarantee you won't go home empty handed.

Those statistics I used are made-up, but they are based on real statistics. Oh, and I'll save the serious comp discussion for another day.
