Not only are they tacky, but I think it shows how little the couple really thinks about marriage. It should be an important part of your life, which I don't think comes across going through a drivethrough window or having Elvis hitching you up.

Why not? Its cheap, and its fun

I most definetely would. But I would still invite all my family and friends. Much, much better then some huge wedding in a church, and god, and the minister spouting out of the bible. $10,000 worth of flowers, and all the other moronic jazz. I'd much prefer $300 wedding where elvis sings a few tracks and then tells you to kiss the bride but make sure not to step on his blue suede shoes.

That being said, where/when/how/who and everything wedding related will be up to my wife. I wouldn't really care either way, but would state my preferences and then let her do the planning

My wife and I thought about scrapping the whole big wedding and running off to get married in Vegas a bunch of times. While I wouldn't recommend getting married while on a trip to Vegas, planning to get married in Vegas has a lot of pros.

Pros
party atmosphere that is fun for all your guests
cheap airfare from most parts of the country for out of state guests
plenty of hotel accomodations for everyone
A ton of places to host the wedding and reception almost any day of the year you pick (you don't have to hunt around for a reception place)

Cons
Somewhat sleazy town (depending on your own sleaze-meter)
Stigma of Vegas wedding
Not in your Religious building (if you're a religious type)

No doubt it would probably be fun, but I don't know if that is something you want to take the seriousness out of. If later down the lines I ever renewed my vows and wanted to marry my wife again for the fun of it then Vegas may be an option.

I'm hoping that when I get married the wife won't want a huge wedding. It's not because I'm cheap, and it's not because I don't want family and friends; rather, to me, a wedding is supposed to be an intimiate and special moment for those getting married and close family. The idea of it being a big party with 300 friends just doesn't appeal to me.

Vegas weddings are as cliche as big weddings. The only difference is you save a lot of money and have more fun (mostly for the groom I'm assuming).

Well the question asked if i would consider it..

sure..why not. Considering things never hurt anyone as long as you don't act on it.

so would i actually do it? Nah..never.

got married at the chapel at the luxor...it definitely wasn't a drive through wedding being hosted by Elvis...

but it probably cost a whole lot more than one of those though...(but still cheaper than what we would have paid for a church wedding)...

Ideally we wouldn't even have to go to Vegas (although it would be fun). Just march down to the JP's office and get a license.

"Doesn't want a huge wedding" is one of my criteria for finding mrs. right, btw. It's a stupid tradition.

You can get a classy marriage in Vegas these days with or without an Elvis impersonator, lol.

Plus Vegas is set up for adults to have fun so once the ceremony is over and the reception is held everybody is able to continue partying away or go see a show or whatever.

well the bf wants to do this in vegas, because he doesn't see the big deal with weddings.

i am from a huge family, and i want to be able to share this day with them. running off to vegas would be somewhat rude, and i don't think my parents would like it.

now, if i had one of those fancy ones at say the bellagio, i might change my mind. NO DRIVE THRU WEDDINGS.

My cousin just got married in Vegas last year, and she invited all of her family and friends. Just because its Vegas doesn't mean that everyone who gets married there, ran off and did it without letting everyone know.

I'm getting married at The Venetian in Las Vegas a week from today. Their chapel is very nice. After that a very nice dinner for the friends and family who could come to be part of everything. Not all weddings in Vegas are Elvis weddings or cheap/ghetto. We're having a huge reception in our hometown in July for the people who couldn't make it/weren't invited to Vegas.

Thinking a marriage is important, and thinking a wedding is important are too totally separate things.
