So I work at UNLV where CNN is holding the dem debate tonight. My department is right next door to the cox pavilion and I was given the day off because there was no possible way to get in and out of my office due to the various restrictions.

The stadium where they are having it seats 4600, only 2400 were invited, of which only 600 UNLV people got tickets. CNN selected the audience - there was a "lottery" website for UNLV that you entered in your party affiliation, along with all sorts of other info. Supposedly 1200 people registered from UNLV (I wasn't picked - assume probably because I put registered as independent as it seemed to be a pattern among others i work with that also didn't get picked). The person from my office who has a husband who was in the military and died (not while in combat) was selected along with the director and the assistant director. Others on campus have encountered the same pattern - only those in high level positions, only those with military connections. A few were asked to submit questions but it was clear that you were only allowed to ask questions that Hillary or Obama would answer to. Everything was centered around those two. Posters went up on Weds for richardson, they were down today. Supporters for obama have inundated everywhere. for some reason this campus is swarmed with them carrying posters, posting signs, handing out stuff.

CNN keeps saying Hilary holds a large lead in NV...well I'm not sure where thats coming from. In my group of 12 or so at work only 1 supports Hilary. Maybe its the univ atmosphere. Among the union groups from what I've read in the paper here in Vegas there is no support for Hilary because she came here a few months back and totally brushed back the casino dealers/workers unions. Maybe reno loves her - but form my understanding Reno is a more right wing sorta town.

So just wanted to let you know those interesting facts for the debate so you knew what happened behind the scenes.

Hope they do the school justice showing off our arena and wonderful 70f+ weather right now!

Sounds like she's trying to keep a friendly audience.

Blitzer has already been warned not to let them "gang up" on her heiness.

This should be interesting.

Being Vegas, everyone on stage should be given diamonds to wear ? just to remind Americans that they?re all millionaires and most certainly not the common folk.

Watching on TV.

I laugh at edwards, the guy has no chance. Not presidential at all. Biden, as I originally thought, has personality. The guy has spunk.

Hehe, he does do that. I think he's smart, though.

That guy who looks like the ugly elf, what is he doing up there (the guy who carries things in his pockets)? Come on.

The only people there who look presidential are hillary, obama, biden...then the others just _look_ off. Chris Dodd looks like an angry old dad or something, I don't care for him!

This is interesting - dodd and hillary say that national security more important than human rights - richardson says adamantly the opposite - obama says they are hand in hand and have to be balanced.

Yeah, that question really isn't a fair question.

Best line so far was from kookcinich. "you're a trial lawyer, you should know better" - question was about china trade and how workers are treated. kookcinich went after the breck girl.

Wait... so Hillary says that national security is more important that human rights?

Let me say that again...

Hillary Clinton: "National security is more important than human rights."

Just wanted to make sure that's on record.

Not quite. The question isn't quite fair so I don't think you can state it quite like that.

/ends self for "defending" billary

Yes, bbdub333 she said that, but as dodd said, it's (US security) one of the two parts a pres agrees to when they take oath.

Obama was right and the only one to mention how they're not mutually exclusive. The question was stupid and the others answered a stupid question :)

I like Obama. I wish he was doing a bit better tonight, though.

True, obabarama answered that about as correctly as one could answer that unfair question.

Edwards had to throw one more little jab in there at hillary - hes been doing it all night and the crowd is getting more and more annoyed by it booing him more each time

and dont forget about the talk clock:
http://chrisdodd.com/talkclock/lv (sponsered by chris dodd)

I still think Obama is doing the best job up there, considering the questions they were throwing at in in the beginning. It seems to me that he is trying to answer the question (Edwards included) and they are not letting him or Edwards finish answering.

Barack sure isn't helping himself tonight. Biden and Dodd seem to be the most direct so far.

Biden and Dodd have been the most direct in all the debates I've seen. Dodd made a few good points so far tonight I even agree with. Too bad both of them put together poll less than Kucinich - who is a nutjob. They should have a Kucinich/Paul debate... On SciFi

Did anyone notice Hillary's teeth clenching as she had to agree NAFTA was a mistake?

Not really. He's struggling to find the answers. His eventual answer may be fine but he's struggling to get it out. It's like he's trying too hard not to mess up.
