I just realized that I haven't consumed meat in over a week. I've had nothing but rice, vegetables, ramen noodles, and PBJ sandwiches.

It's hard going vegan. There might've been some animal products in your ramen noodles or PBJ sandwiches.

I just decided to go vegan, after realizing/seeing what goes on in the factory farms (some may say those are lies, etc). I would still eat, say, a fish if I caught it myself (so you could say I am not vegan, but the fact is, I never go fishing). I am not completely against eating meat, but the fact is, I couldn't kill a cow myself. I wouldn't be able to bring myself to do it. I understand that "we are the stronger species, top of the food chain, etc" but is that any justification to the inhumane way we "process" animals for food? I think not. I can't eat meat that has been processed that way, knowing what goes on. It makes me sick.

Flame on if you wish.

Okay two points.

1. Cows aren't human

2. Yes, those butcher factories are disgusting. If animals were butchered the kosher way, they would die without suffering and the quality of the meat would be MUCH higher.

okay maybe a third point - 3. Instead of going Vegan, just try going Organic first. I'm much more concerned about the hormones, pesticides, and feeding animals recycled leftovers of the same animal.

People, like I said in my earlier posts.. for me at least, it is not about killing the animal. It is not wrong to kill an animal for food. That is just stupidity.

My gripe is the way the animals live until their humane death.

Another big problem for me is what the animals are fed. It is absolutely not okay in my book to feed herbivores waste meat and other garbage. That is just disgusting and wrong. It really does effect the taste and quality of the meat. Go buy some local ground beef that came from a free roaming grain-fed cow. Then go buy your local supermarket garbage. I guarentee you will be amazed.

Yet another thing I find disgusting is the hormones they pump the animals full of to get them to produce more.

I pretty much agree. But me agreeing would then make Jzero think that I am not a vegan. Last time I checked the defn. of a vegan is someone who doesn't consume any animal products of any kind. I don't.

I'm through discussing with any punk kid who can't handle debate and has to lash out with expletives and personal insults.

You still don't understand, jesus. I am not ignoring those statements. Ill even explain them to you. See, I don't catch fish or hunt deer, but you don't understand that those statements don't mean that I do. If was, say, stranded on a desert island, I would catch fish and eat it. True, that wouldn't make me a vegan, but do I eat fish now? No, therefore I am. The chance that I would ever be stranded on a desert island is slim. Now when it comes to deer, I wouldn't ever eat that, but I was simply saying I find hunting deer to be more acceptable than the factory farming that goes on now.

Got it?

Gee, thanks for clearing that up. Ive always thought cows were human on the inside. Look at the definition of humane, please.

2. I agree with that statement.

3. I maybe would, but sadly, half of the organic stuff is lies. Horizon for instance, lies about how their cows are treated. I also agree about the hormones, etc.

Just thought about all the "processing" equip they use to make some foods, and how those machines were possibly used to prepare foods that are from animals. (Sorta like the allergy warnings on cracker boxes etc). Would a die-hard vegan not eat this stuff too?

It's quite hard for me to imagine that we [humans] are evolved in such a way to eat all sorts of things, and that if we didn't eat as much meat as we did, imagine how'd it would look with a zillion cows and steers running the country (some would argue that they'd do a better job than Bush or Davis :p)

Correct, a true vegan wouldn't, but some of that info is hard to find out.

You do know that we breed thousands upon thousands of cows for the purpose of meat and dairy? There wouldn't be a zillion cows and steers running around. Now, yeah, we used to have many more bison, but we did an ok job of thinning that population.

Correct, so maybe instead of going vegan, he should go kosher? I myself keep kosher in the house, and I think that if you feel vegan is hard, then just eat kosher meats. Not only is it MUCH higher quality food, the animals are killed in the most humane ways possible. The only problem you might have with going kosher is, that it is more expensive than normal meat, but IMHO, it is worth every penny, especially when buying "risky" food such as hotdogs ;)
