I think AMD intended for Vega to be out before now, but ran into some reason that lead to a delay. You can't honestly argue that they would plan to cede so much of the market for that long.

Anyone got a link to this 2016 Vega roadmap?

Found the map :

I have a Top Man looking for Vega.....

😀

I remember when people saw that roadmap and thought there was a chance Vega was in 2016...
When AMD said 1H 2017, it was essentially confirmed that Vega was releasing in June. Don't know how you can see that and thing anything else.

@IllogicalGlory
This has to break some rule dude....
But LOL. I started dying right away.

God, we need some humor to lighten this up.
Paper Launch June 30th, Availability Saturday, July 1st.
Best 1 day sales ever as weekend launch allows more people to head to bestbuy to buy the GPU.

I'd say AMD should hire me right now to run the marketing department, but I mean... how bad could I possibly do compared to what happens now?

^I don't expect it to be that late in June, but I also imagine at least 3 days from paper launch to actual launch. Paper launch and immediately open pre-orders, with enough time to be delivered on launch day?

Nothing about that post was meant to be serious. I thought that was clear 🙁

I just got extra income to get Vega too, it's ready to go!

It's obvious - they pulled resources onto Zen to get that finished. Can't blame them really.

Could be, but I still think it has more to do with GFs process not being up to snuff and AMD holding out for Samsung LPC/LPU and making it there.

They wouldn't have changed the wafer supply agreement to allow for such if they weren't going to use it and GF is going to be at capacity with AMDs other products all using GF so they'd need to move something to a third party. It makes the most sense to do it for the highest margin parts that need the fewest wafers from a cost perspective.

Similar to GTX 480's launch, I wonder what the threshold of low performance or perf/$ will be for people to back out from a purchase at release who are otherwise committed today.
Perf/$ has to be better than Nvidia.
If its the same or lower then anyone who is currently interested in Vega but doesn't have a freesync monitor will back out. Only the ones with freesync will still buy it then.

Yeah, I know you were pushing the boundary to the end of Q2, semi-seriously, but it is still possible. I wouldn't be surprised if if comes out that late--I just don't expect it to....for no real reason.

That's BS. People on these forums like to project on to every other single consumer on the planet. Tons of people are invested in Freesync and want the next big upgrade, tons of people are building new rigs (you know kids are turning 14 or 15 every single day of every single year.. lots of new gamers are coming of age all the time and often get fancy setups for their birthday..), lots of people just want to hand their wife/husband their old rig just to satisfy the itch to build something new. The argument that if all it does is equal 1080ti at the same $ that no one will buy it is false and non quantifiable.

Edit: This.

Hopefully we see AIB Vega's on May 30th..

Actually I think Vega will only be in the freesync market at 4k, I haven't looked into 1440p much but I bet the 1080ti smokes it easily.

I'm kind of hoping that the 8gb HBM2 will sustain 7680x1080p at 100fps+... I don't want much do I.

If you're expecting Vega at Computex, you will likely be disappointed. Nothing in the agenda really points to Vega.

100% of the "clues" people are grasping at can 100% be explained by RX 5xx series products.

That's only ~8 Mpixels, the same as 4k. And I think most agree than 4GB is fine for many (most?) 4k needs, so double that should be more than enough.

Yeah, Powercolor sending out invites doesn't instill confidence that it will be about Vega.

Hmm.. Maybe its not impossible then.

Kind of makes me want to get Vega and then try VSR just to see if it could handle it before I drop the cash on the monitors.

Have you tried 21:9? I had triple monitors for awhile but much prefer my ultrawide setup now for gaming. And you're only dealing with 5Mp resolution.

I think there will be 3 Vegas. I would like one that equals or slightly beats my 2 RX480s in CF in my Ryzen 1800X rig below.

The real question in my mind is the price structure. If they can replicate the Polaris pricing structure, obviously on a higher scale, they might be competitive to Nvidia.

Seriously, what new high end graphics card does AMD RTG have to face the GTX1070/1080 and now 1080TI Nvidia onslaught?

My "aging" Nvidia GTX980TI SC "kicks to the curb" a single RX480 but it should considering price.

5Mp resolution; ~"3k". In proper talk Ultrawide QHD, which I am also running and recommend. At ~34" and higher than 60Hz I agree it's a great format.

And back to the VRAM size, I've been thinking I may go 4GB Vega if the price and performance makes it viable; I don't mind tweaking a few settings if needed. Obviously I'd prefer 8gb for peace of mind, but I've never been objectively convinced I'll need more than 4GB.

Gaming with my 970 I'm very convinced I'll need more than 4Gb of VRAM, even if Vega's magic bullet HBCC does turn out to be very useful in that regard. Far too often I'm pushing 3-3.5Gb VRAM usage in games.

As stated before, VRAM usage doesn't mean a whole bunch. Some games take up a lot more when its available with no actual performance difference.

I'm on 2560x1080 21:9 right now, I just need more screen retail space for racing.
