VDSL2 PPPoE on DD-WRT or Tomato? Which router to use?

I can't get this setup to work. I have an Actiontec Q1000 modem from Qwest/Centurylink, I called tech support and they confirmed my service supports running my modem in Transparent Bridge mode (RFC 1483 Transparent Bridging) and having my router handle the PPPoE connection. I have put the modem into bridge mode, setup my router with the correct credentials, but my router won't ever connect. I am thinking that the newer VDSL2 technology isn't compatible with Tomato, any ideas?

On a 2nd related question, if I put my router on the modem's DMZ am I effectively accomplishing the same thing?

And thirdly, is there a modem better suited for working with VDSL2?

I have Tomato on a router right now but I don't think it supports VDSL2 because I can't get it working. It's become very tiresome to troubleshoot this issue since VDSL2 is a very new technology and not many people even have it available to them.

I think my next troubleshooting step is going to be to use RasPPoE on my computer to make sure I can get the connection going with my modem in Transparent Bridge mode.
