VCR/DVD in one or separate ones?

Parents VCR just broke, and they are looking for buy a VCR/DVD combo player because they want a DVD player in their room. What are the advantages of a combo player as opposed to a separate VCR/DVD player in terms of quality/reliability/price/convience?

Seems like buying combo VCR/DVD machines are pricier than buying separate machines. Not worth it...IMO

Aside from taking up less space, there aren't any advantages.

A major downside, though, is if the DVD or the VCR breaks, then you have only half the product working. Better to have them seperate and replace as needed.

are the prices so pricy because of simple convience or is there an advantage in features/playback that they have

ah, ic. Well then, any recommendations for a good VCR? My parents are looking to spend under 200$ total, we already have an Apex AD-1500 downstairs for our DVD Player and probably will buy another one for upstairs, leaving about 130$ for a VCR

Probably more because of convenience since there aren't too many manufacturers of combo machines to drive the prices down...
