I am overclocking an E8500 processor. I am having a problem getting past 4.0 GHz. In BIOS I set CPU Vcore to 1.25625. When I run CPUID it says the Vcore is 1.22 EasyTune 6 says it is 1.2375. I even ran Prime95 while watching CPUID and it still showed 1.22 What should I go by.
 
Use CPU-Z (CPUID utility) version 1.52.

It is the defacto standard for reporting/documenting Vcore by enthusiasts everywhere. Regardless how accurate or inaccurate the results may be, you want to have numbers you can compare to what everyone else talks about (which is their CPUz Vcore numbers).

I.e. use the same voltage reading software as everyone else so at least you have precision working for you even if the accuracy is questionable.

That is your North Bridge. There is a different acronym for it but currently I am drawing blank .... googles it... ahhh, MCH or memory controller hub.

Test the 3 different areas for stability; the Motherboard subsystem (prime95 Large FFTs) the ram (memtest86 v2.11 or 4.00) and finally your CPU overclock which is the last thing that should be checked, ram is first, then subsystem..

For your RAM testing drop your multi to 6 and run your ram at 1:1 e.g. DDR2 1066 = 533fsb, DDR2 800 = 400fsb Anything over 2x the fsb that is > that the advertised Mhz is 1 more monkey wrench in your overclock. And usually overclocking ram is not a good idea but opinions on this may vary.
 
I tried your suggestion to check ram. I dropped the multi to 7 and setthe host frequency to 533. Then set the System Memory Mutplier to 2.00D and it wouldn't boot.
 
make sure the ram is at its rated voltage. I think my DDR2 kit was 2.0-2.1 range so I set it to 2.08v, you'll need to burn Memtest86 to a disk and boot into it from bios... that board should do that kind of fsb with a wolfdale, strange ???
 
My memory is set to 2.1 . What I don't understand is I have been running 9.5 multi. ,a host of 422 and sys.mem.multi of 2.66. So my CPU is at 4.0 and mem. has been running 1125 and it has been stable. I don't understand .
 
1:1 ratio is the full speed of the memory module, when its run as DDR or double data rate, your end produced rate is twice the SIMM. To my understanding, if its not running 1:1 stable, its not running its advertised speed. If I am in-correct please someone advise me. I cannot explain this further cause of my absence of further knowledge on this. Personally I don't think it changes even with DDR3 as the 3 is just a sub-variation or progression or the Double Data rate. You don't have 3 sides of a single line which is the physical shape of a ram stick only 2 sides.

If you didn't test it at 1:1 when you first got it and its past it's warranty, you may be out of luck on a return. I do have a stable (2x2) 4g kit of DDR2 1000Mhz...
