Vcore question

Does upping vcore have any adverse effects other than heat? If I keep adding vcore will I be okay if my temps stay under controll?

Is this too much vcore? my load temps stay under 60* C
Sempron64 2800+ (256L2) 1.6 @ 2.36 Vcore 1.72

Thanks

I havnt seem my temps go over 54, I was just using 60 as a general rule. I backed it down to:

2304mhz @ 1.65 Vcore

I also set my thermal option is the BIOS to cut CPU usage to 80% when temps hit 50. Now I am gonna run Prime 95 over night to see what happens.

The temperatures depend on how your motherboard is calibrated so they're not necessarily accurate (the real temperatures could actually be higher, for all we know). That said, that is way too much vcore, regardless of your "CPU" temperatures. Higher voltage increases the signal-to-noise ratio but accelerates gate-oxide degradation. It also increases the temperature of hot spots which cannot shed their excess heat fast enough.

I, personally, dont like going over 1.55 on 90nm chips but 1.65 may not be too bad anyway. Have you checked what your actual CPU voltage is? Most motherboards overvolt or undervolt a bit...

So is 1.65 good or still too much?

Thanks again.

if you have a stock cooler you would be wise to keep in ~1.5v-1.6v range, 1.65v or slightly more with better aftermarket aircooling.
