VCD PLAYER PROBLEM.... PLEASE HELP

Okay... My friend lent me a VCD and I popped it into my DVD Player which is VCD compatible.
the sound comes out perfectly fine, it's just that the image comes out with all these strange lines in grey scale.
Can anyone help me solve the problem?
Is there anything I can do?

Older dvd player are not able to play some brand of CD-R. My Sony player is able to play only Princo CD-R. If you can, tell your friend to burn the vcd on a CD-RW, and try again.
