VCD Mpeg1 on DVD+R Theory (Opinion please)

Does anyone has any idea to fool the burning software to burn VCD on a DVD media?

A DVD media should be able to fit around 7 VCDs.

Theory:
---------
From my understanding, we are able to burn miniDVD. Meaning burning DVD mpeg2 on a CD-R. Standalone DVD player are able to play it. Meaning DVD player plays disc by determining the file format but not the media disc.

Therefore, in theory, if we burn mpeg 1 on a DVD-R/DVD+R, standalone DVD player would be able to play it also.

Anyone can give any feedback?

try using nero. that is assume you have the mpeg files on your hd.

doom9.org may also help

I don't know if you can burn a .bin .cue to a DVD-R, but if you can, then you could try using VCDImager to make a multi-GB VCD image. It will give you an error that it won't fit on a 74-min CD, but you still might be able to burn it to DVD-R.

Can you create a DVD with a VCD-like file structure on it and just dump your *.mpg or *.dat files into your MPEGAV folder? Or is there something special that Nero does during the VCD wizard that isn't just hand-holding?

I tried actually.

With VCD format, it doesn't allow to burn as i choose 4500MB of data.
With DVD format, it doesn't allow me to put mpeg1 file into it.

Really have no idea how to do it.

Did you go in Nero preferences & enable overburn ?

Just use the DVD as a data disk...it's not going to play as a DVD (or VCD) anyway ...it's just storage. Nero, Roxio, or Veritas DLA will let you use the DVD as a removable storage device. It'd be like dumping a diskload of .mp3s onto a CDROM.

I believe there are a couple DVD authoring programs that will accept MPEG1 video files, then render them to the DVD. Quality is not great, but you just link each video to a button on the First Play menu. I'm using DVDit! Pro, and I'm pretty sure it'll do it (I'll look when I get home and post it later tonight or tomorrow).

FWIW

Actually, the dirt cheap APEX 1100W plays VCD/SVCD off DVD just fine. Throw the files on ... it works great. It'll even play non-standard files and MP3! In fact, it'll even play VOBs thrown on a DVD-R. No problem.
