But honestly, it should be like this

But even that is good news. It means we might actually be able to buy a card that can actually overclock without burning out the motherboard. 😀

I might get a 1060 myself now isntead of a 480X , but goddamit the graph is driving me mad. had to throw it in excel and used 1.15 , 1.25 and 1.43 (maby should be 1.45)

If AMD manages to troll nVIDIA hard and releases a driver that increases performance to even make the 480 look unbeatable... nVIDIA will have a bad time.

Also.. the 460 is the competitor of the 1040 and nVIDIA is not looking in that... AMD might have a gem buried without knowing.

Talk about dishonest marketing. Anyway 15% faster than RX480 probably only in DX11. Slower in DX12. Should be on par with AIB RX480 if they are indeed clocked faster than stock. 6gb vs 8gb is IMO not an issue at least for now. VR numbers are nonsense probably. Its like claiming RX480 is 30x faster when using foveated rendering.

Most likely worse in perf/$ but will still sell more than 480 if they can make them fast enough.
+1

Here's my reasoned speculation about the GTX 1060 6GB:

It will beat RX 480 in Gameworks titles by an average of 15%.
It will lose to RX 480 in DX12 benchmarks by an average of 15%.
It will use 70-80% of the power of a RX 480.
It will be 20-30% more expensive than an RX 480.
It will still sell like hotcakes.

Cheaper PCB, 2gb of less VRAM, and smaller die (I'm guessing 190mm2). That gives Nvidia their room for margins, so I'm hoping Nvidia prices it at $249. Seeing that AMD priced 4gb RX480's for $199, $249 *should* be the price. Although, as I said, I'm hoping.... so I'm betting it'll be $279. At $249 I'd get the 1060 over a RX 480 without question to tide me over until 2nd generation finfet GPU's come out. But if it's $279, I'll just get a $199 4gb RX 480.

That would suggest it has worse DX12 performance than Maxwell.

If we are saying this is around GTX 980 performance, then the benchmarks I am seeing put GTX 980 around 8-20% faster than RX 480 in DX11 games.

For DX12 games, the GTX 980 is +/- 3% with the RX 480 in , Ashes of the Singularity and Total Warhammer

It's only in Hitman that the RX 480 seems to really beat the GTX 980

In DX12 Tomb Raider, the GTX 980 is about as much faster than the RX 480 as it is in DX11 games.

Looks like a good card.

But this is Nvidia...they don't give you performance for nothin. I predict this card will be released at at least $299, maybe even $329. They don't care, they know it will outsell the 480 regardless.

Then some crappy 1050 or something will be released at $200 or 249 and it will be panned by every review (as it should be), and still sell great.

Now all you need are error bars and "p" values.

Seriously though, I would wait for benchmarks from review sites before making any conclusions.

Edit: dont really like the 3gb memory configuration though.

Based on some shoddy napkin math, it "should" cost $260.
I wouldn't be surprised to see $300, but anything above that is a bit too much.
(Assuming they stop the founders garbage at the 1070 level)

And then they release a 1040 for LATAM and people will buy it... until the next 3 months where their corresponsant driver nerfs them all.

I'm guessing $250 because they can get it. But if I were Nvidia I would charge $200 to really kick AMD in the teeth.

The 480 could eviscerate the 1060 and the 1060 would still sell better.

They can charge $299 and still sell every single one as long as performance is in the RX 480 / GTX 970 ballpark. Why would they cut into profit margins when they don't need to in order to sell? Shareholders wouldn't be happy with reduced margins.

NVIDIA cards are like expensive paper tissues. They are great, feels good to use, but still once used, it goes to the trash bin really fast.

AMD cards are like the generic cloth tissue. Not as great, but you can reuse it again, previous desinfection first.

What do you mean "still" ?
It "should".
