vBulletin Plugin Suggestions

I am not sure if there is a plugin for this, but we really need to make the code blocks in the Programming Forum work. Right now, everything is just straight-up text (no indentation, color coding, etc.).

And NO on the reputation system - people would just abuse it. For example, a troll would have a rep of -1000000, and yes they probably deserve it, but they might not like it. Also, trolls can go around giving people bad rep.

Someone with low rep power cannot give anyone bad rep. You can only give positive or negative reps (called "negs") if your rep power is positive.

Not to be mean or anything, but I'm pretty sure people would give you a low rank because of your reputation/posts in OT. So, would you like to have a bad rep, and not be able to give anyone bad rep?

He's just trolling to see if he can get the lowest rep.
A rep system would be abused.
People would post threads (nef) to try to get reps. If they didn't get them, they would whine and try to top themselves. If they got negative reps for something they thought they should have gotten positive reps for, they whine even more.

Trolls like HArcadio would be encouraged to post even more to try and get the lowest rating.

Absolutely NO to deleting own threads. Too many ways to abuse that especially in the FS/T forum.

I like the personal album idea so that we can post rigs and home theaters.

I don't know if this would be a plug-in, but something to change the date formats from the American system to almost anything else?

I've talked about it here

Also, I suggest you guys check out http://ubuntuforums.org/ . For some reason, I find their interface really nice.

I think the plugin that automerges double posts would be helpful
http://www.vbulletin.org/forum...&highlight=double+post

This would merge together posts by the same person in a thread that don't have anyone else's post between them...

So if I read through a 200 post thread, respond to one post.... and a few minutes later to another post... if no one else has posted, I'll end up with just one post.

This will help limit bumping your own threads too... so for instance, in fs/ft... if the rules say you can't bump your own thread more than once every 24 hours... you can set that plugin's threshold to 24 hours... and they WON'T be able to bump more often than that.

That's a good idea. I like that!

I also like the spoiler tag suggestion.

I like to see the forums heavily skinable. With a decent color selection, and most importantly, choice of a dark background.

1) I don't think people should be able to delete their own thread (spam/abuse), but locking it would be a good idea. Or maybe a button to request the mods of the forum to delete/lock/move. All the vbulletin forums I'm a member of have this option as a default. That may be able to be changed though.

2) Yes, the ability to block users would be good. Sometimes people don't play nice..so we block them 😛 This is also a default in vBulletin, all the other forums I've seen have what is called an ignore list

3) If inline photo posting will be enabled, the ability to control whether one wants to see or not see inline photos is a must (people at work, etc). i'd rather not have inline posting because people will abuse it (post inappropriate things, which will give more things to monitor for the mods)Vbulletin allows you in the options to do this by default

4) Heatware/ebay is probably the best answer to the feedback part. When people on other forums ask for feedback, they probably won't know anything about the feedback system on AT. Heatware is good because it's used on many forums. I agree

Added my comments in bold above. Basically, most of what you said is already in Vbulletin.

Other defaults are post reporting, font color, size, multi-quote, no nested quotes.

x2. Very important.

I remember a plugin from awhile ago that allowed people to "bet" on random stuff. You would get points for posting, and you get bet them in these user-created bets. Anything to if FBB will ever get laid to superbowl turnout. Of course, the points are completely useless.

No rep system

Can we have a positive-only rep system?

Or something like, you can only give "-2" rep to anyone, but you need to take a "-1" yourself? It would help regulate things a lot.

If it's not possible, can we have a "good reply" rating like someone mentioned earlier?

For the programming forum, we BADLY need the "code" block functionality to work!

Can we have custom avatars/signatures? (EDIT: with pictures?)

I also like the way things are done at http://ubuntuforums.org/ Can we just copy it ? 😉

Oh, that reminds me, more smiles please ? 🙂

Please no games or betting... nothing like that. That's childish and a waste of processing power and bandwidth.

On tarantulas.us there is an estore that lets you "buy" certain things with "ebucks" that you earn when people reply to threads you create. There it serves, to me at least, as an incentive to post quality threads that will elicit many replies...

The "items" you can "buy" are the ability to change your username... or change to a custom user title.... change the color of your username or title...
sticky a thread, unsticky a thread...
lock a thread, unlock a thread.

Some of these obviously wouldn't be a good idea...
and adding ebucks in that way would encourage neffing here...
But if the plugin was modified to use a positive only feedback system...perhaps a "good post" feature like others mentioned.
and each user can only do it to you say once every 90 days...

Then make the cost high enough... say 100 positives to change your username (profanity filter in place of course)... 500 positives to create your own custom user title...(you need to DESERVE a custom title here... like den mother or whatever). of course when you "buy" something the points are deducted from your total...

I think that would be useful... and hopefully entice people to post quality threads...
Plus instead of users begging to have their usernames changed, the mods can just tell them to go earn it...

Let people lock their own threads for 50 points...
Sticky a thread for some amount of points (separate "user stickied" section would be good...below normal stickies)

Auto-Delete more than X Quotes. Not a Warning about exceeding either, just lop it off auto-magically.
Anything but a Positive Rep system is useless and prone to abuse
Not sure of an Ignore feature. Sometimes it's better for All if everyone is pissed at some schmuck. Gets them Banned quicker.
Custom Avatars/Sigbars would be cool, if it's not a load on the AT Servers. I have no idea how they work from the Webpage Server side, I assume the Link is all the Server posts/stores and the User retrieves the graphic from wherever.
Namelog---you can run, but you can't hide.

No to custom avatars / sig pictures -- simply because people will abuse it.

If people want to use custom avatars / sig pictures, then maybe there has to be a requirement to have one like you have to be an "elite" member or something like that. Or a mod or someone higher up can create a thread where people can post avatars/sig pics that they want to use. Then the mod can approve/disapprove the avatar/sig pics. If approved, the avatar/sig pic then can be uploaded to AT's server or a different one. Also, there should be a hide avatar/sig option if custom avatars/sigs are allowed, but I'm pretty sure it's already available in vBulletin.

No to custom signatures.
I'm leaning towards no to custom avatars as well.
No to rep system
Yes to spoiler tags
Yes to working code tags

What about a plugin or alternative style sheet that would create a mobile friendly version of the forums?

If enabled, inline pictures should only allowed in certain subforums and have it so it keeps the size of the pictures loaded directly into the thread small (and you can click the image for the full size).
