What settings should I use to encode VBR? There's Quality, VBR Method, and VBR Quality. Also is 128 min/256max good for VBR? And does putting sample rate to 48K help?

Using Lame encoder. What is encoder version (MPEG I, II, II.5)?

Thanks. Curious, why is -alt preset standard best and who created it? I noticed it only sets VBR Quality to VBR 2. That shouldn't be higher? And sets VBR Method to VBR Old.

It's best because it creates files which are 99.9% indisdinguishable from the originals (or so I've been told). I definately notice a marked difference between LAME VBR alt-preset-standard files and 192kbps CBR files. I notice no difference, however, between the alt-preset-standard files and either a 320kbps MP3 or the original audio CD.

I'm pretty sure the LAME inventors created it.

I always leave the VBR quality settings alone; I doubt there is any benefit in tweaking it.
