I'm currently using CDex with LAME (v1.3) to rip my cds.

If I'm burning at 160kbps with VBR encoding, I'm given specific VBR options as
1.) min VBR encoding............(I have it set at 160kbps)
2.) max VBR encoding..............(I have it set at 160 kbps)
3.) VBR Quality...............(I have it set at VBR 4)
4.) Quality......(I have it set at HIGH Q=2)
5.) Output Sample Rate........ (I have it set at 44100)
6.) On the Fly Mp3 encoding (box is checked)

Is there any settings you suggest I should change above that would render better mp3's at 160kbps?

This may be a dumb question, but why would you want to rip VBR mp3's if you are setting the bitrate constant? I mean, is there really a difference between what you are doing above, and simply changing the setting to 160 kpbs CBR and ripping the mp3's?

Otherwise, I'd say all your settings you have listed look good.

Exactly. If min = max it isn't VBR!

Min = 96, max = 192 would make much more sense. The whole point of VBR is to let the encoder look at the audio and set the rate low for "simple" parts, high for "complex" parts.

I'm always behind. When people were telling me that --alt-preset -Z was the right thing to use, I was still using --r3mix. Bleh.
