Actually, that was another nice benefit. I got to lounge around on the hide-a-bed and play PS2 for 3days straight. Finished Final Fantasy X-2 and started up Final Fantasy XII.

I had it done and was sore for about 3 days. After a week, I was entirely back to normal.

The doctor wouldn't give me pain meds, so I had to buy tylenol on my way out of the hospital. :(

I drove myself there and home...

Much less of an ordeal than wisdom teeth, by the way.

This was pretty much my experience (had my snip snip on Dec 8th, 2006). However, my doctor was merciful and gave me a few days of hydrocodone 5/500 pills. One of those with a single extra strength acetaminophen was plenty for the pain. Get some frozen peas or corn and wrap in a towel for an ice pack (buy one of each so you can alternate cold packs). The ice pack did more for the pain than the drugs ever did for me.

The actual procedure is mainly only painful when they give you the local anesthetic, and that seriously feels like a kick in the junk...you've been warned. However, I'm looking forward to a 2nd negative in early March and subsequently not worrying about birth control of any kind whatsoever for the rest of my days.:D

yeah we got peas. it worked great.

I had the surgery done last june. i have YET to get a negitive. last test i had said i had 3 dead sperm. i am due to have another next month.
rut-roh..... maybe need a surgery repeat?

no not yet anyway. it can take up to a year for it to be negitive. considering i had 3 dead sperm (you usually have millions of live ones) my doctor is not to worried.

I wish I would've gotten my doctor's orders in writing. He said I needed 15 ejaculations over a 30day period before my first sample...you also have to figure you need about a week before you can start on those 15 :Q!

I have heard that rarely some men have a second set of tubes, so even if one is cut you can still have sperm show up.

My general doctor said that I'll have to go over it with the urologist, but chances are they'll give me a valium or something before the procedure. I figured the local would be the most painful part of the procedure.

This might sound stupid, but I'm really worried about using it again after the surgery. In my mind, I feel like it'll hurt the first time... Did anyone have any discomfort while having sex the first few times after the procedure?

Ice, forzen peas/corn, and some fruit of the looms are on my to-get checklist. :)

None at all. We waited about 5 days from the day of the snip to our first time back in the saddle, and there was no discomfort or pain. YMMV, but all in all it was no big deal.

read this before you get snipped

Vasectomy and dementia?

I don't really see any hard numbers in there...

It's an early study, and this is also an ABSTRACT of the research paper. (It baffles me how so many anandtechers are research illiterate...) If you want to see those hard numbers, then you need to have access to pubmed. If it's published, that means it's peer-reviewed and the numbers have passed mustard (pun intended). Whether or not you, or some other scientist agrees with those numbers, is an entirely different matter.

I tend to remain sceptical pending further research ;)

What is the minimum age for this procedure? I never want kids and I am just wondering how soon I can have this done.

It only took us 3 days after the procedure for sex and had no problems at all.

Jesus.. so much bullsh1it in this thread.

I had mine done St. Patty's day last year - easy as pie.

I chose to NOT have the local, the sight of a man with a scalpel near my boys was not appealing.

The only thing the forgot to mention was the shave, some old woman nurse did it, at that point, I didn't care, she's seen enough johnsons in here life/career to not really care.

They gave me the sedative, I was out in a few seconds, and awoke in the recovery room. My mother (being a nurse) insisted I go to her house for recovery, and I sat in a recliner for 2 days. I used frozen ice packs, never had to take the pain pills they gave me, and all tests came back negative for sperm.

No change in ejaculate volume, looks the same - women don't notice.

Easiest surgery I've had, you will be fine.

PM me if you need some support.

18, unless you can get parental consent.

You can always have a batch of two frozen before the procedure in case you change your mind later.

Oh man, I'm 31 and we're thinking about it.

Is it just me, or is the hardest part letting go of the fantasy that one day after an apocolypse or journey to a foregin inhabitable planet, you may be called upon to repopulate the world?
