Hi,
I ve bought a new notebook for my wife with P4 3GHz HT, 1024MBRam pc3200, 60GB HDD hitachi, DVDRW+- QSI-082S, 15"SXGA, M11 Ati9700/128MB etc

I have some problems:
1)Sisoft sandra reports me that the Latency Timer in some devices is very high, e.g.
sis5513 EIDE has latency timer 128clk
sis7013 56K modem lat.ti. 173clk
sis7012/18 Audio codec l.t. 173clk
sis648 l.t. 99clk
how can I change those values?
[in bios i have no choice]
2)how can i upgrade the Bios (phoenix Bios4, version 6 / 1.07) ?
3)my dvdr is QSI DVD+-RW SDW-082S, I cannot find anything atall about this drive and its company ... is there a new driver, firmware etc? Where can I find info about it and its producer?
4)I have a sound 'problem' ...
Everything is fine with it, but after some time - 1,2 hours - i cannot hear ANY sound from the notebook EXCEPT the sound of windows when i terminate/restart them !!! .. what is the problem?
5)I have a USB flash disk , I plug it to the usb port, windows inform me about the usb i connected and averything 'seems' ok .. BUT in My Computer I dont see the removable device (or anywhere else), though at the taskbar is the icon where can i stop using this removable device !!!

thnx!

go to the manufacturer website and search for downloads for your laptop. usually they'll have a BIOS there. if you already have the bios file and utility the manufacturer recommends, put those on a floppy then boot your laptop with a win98 bootdisk. run the flash utility, load the bios, chaching! heck, you probably don't even need to do that. dell just requires you to run an exe and it reboots automatically and flashes the bios and shat.

google returned a lot of matches for you drive.

does your sound stop working when you're listening to like, an mp3 or playing a game?

make sure your USB drive is listed in device manager as working properly. it might have saw it but doesn't like the drivers installed. if that's the case, right click it and uninstall (while the drive plugged in), then action > scan for changes. if it picks it up there and is working properly, go into disk management and make sure it's properly formatted there.

a)google returned to me also many matches but not any official
b)my usb is listed as working fine
c)i havent played for too much time (2+ hours) so I havent noticed some problem with the sound while playing. This problem occured while I was doing work in windows or copying/moving files and then I tried to listen to music and there was no sound! And all the 'windows' sounds were like muted (not actually muted) ....
