various component networking via wireless

is there an item i could buy to wirelessly synch my desktop and my home entertainment system (7.1 surround sound, tv, etc) in the next room over? i would love to be able to listen to my hundreds of cds on good speakers rather than my lovely little 5 year old desktop speakers (which work fine, but just isnt the same).

Yes, this item is called a 'computer' 🙂

What you're looking for is a home theatre PC (HTPC) - a machine which has high quality audio/video output capability and wireless networking. Just hook it up to your sound system, set up the networking so you can read files from the other computer, and enjoy your ripped CDs.

You can also usethe box as a PVR, a games machine, and a home server.

i was thinking something a bit cheaper than a brand new computer, in my muse i was picturing almost something that looks likes a newtwork card for a laptop with the three cords sticking out of it with the audio video cables, but i guess that was a fat chance of existing. is there any other way, like some sort of device to plug into my yahmaha receiver and a program to install on my computer?
