Hello guys and gals,

I am going to buy some type of fan cntroller for my two Vantec Tornado 80mm (rear) and 92 (front) but I never used one before. I am going to buy the Vantec Nexus (spelling) fan controller, so how do I hook up the fan to the controller, with the seperate yellow 3 pin cable (rpm detector)? Thank you!

The Vantec Tornado uses the standard 4pin molex adapter for power and has a seperate wire to monitor RPM. If you want to use a fan speed controller, then you need a 4pin to 3pin adapter (if the fan speed controller doesnt come with it). Connecting the 3pin, rpm wire to the fan speed controller wont do anything. You need to connect the 4pin adapter into the fan controller, but since the fan controller has only 3 pin connections, you will have to use a 4pin to 3pin adapter.

Do yourself a big favor.

Use a Sunbeam Rheobus as it can undervolt to being off. It is not PWM(Google it) it is a rheostat and sends a constant current to the fan=no clicking ever. A Vantec Nexus controller only goes down to 7V. Sunbeam Rheostat cost <$10.

Use fans that will undervolt well and are of quality ball bearing type. I highly reccomend Delta Triple Blade fans that are 38mm thick. All DTBs have a tach wire. The low and medium speed Deltas will start/run at 3.75V. The high speed fans take 4.5V to start/run. All mine do! Look at sidewindercomputers.com or epowerhousepc.com for DTBs.

The red and black go to the controller. The blue wire goes to the motherboard header to detect RPM. You will have to buy three pin shells($0.39), pull the blue wire, stick it in the proper hole in your new empty shell, then plug it into the fan header on the MB. The pins are very easy to remove from the shell. You just use a tiny screw drive or safety pin. Press down the silver square on the side of the shell and remove the pin. Make sure you pull the tiny tab back a bit so it holds in it's new shell.

Thanks all and Galvanized. I had the Vantec Tornado already installed in my PC, the 92mm was the fan for my HSF. The 80mm I had just laying around in my junk box. Since I was upgrading I and didnt need the 92mm has the fan for the HSF, I moved it to the front. I was just going to make my own Rheostat Fan Controller but I really didnt have time due to school and work. I got the Vantec Fan Controller and installed it and it had all the wires for everything I needed. I do not like it but it works and my wife is happy. The thing I dont like about it and I really dont understand why it does this. I have the 92mm on Fan 1 (4800 rpm) and the 80mm on Fan 2 (5700 rpm). when they are turned way down it is good, still blows air and feels cool inside the case. but when I turn fan 1 up it turns up but whne i turn fan 2 up fan 1 turns down a little. can some explain to me why this is. is it because it shares the same power source and it is sharing the 7 volts?

When it is time to upgrade the fans I will be going with panaflos or deltas. I love the deltas I put in my dads pc, but he wont give them back to me.... :(

Thank you.
