Vantec Nexus NXP-101 with Thermaltake Volcano 7+

I bought a new Vantec Nexus Multi-function NXP-101 and ran into a slight problem with connecting it to my heatsink fan, the Volcano 7+ Cu. The Volcano has two connectors: a power connector (red & black wires), and a tachometer connector (yellow wire). The problem is the Nexus NXP-101 expects both the tach and power wires in a single, 3-conductor connector so it can control the fan speed as well as indicate its RPM on the LCD panel.

Would it be unwise to solder the three wires from the V7+ onto a spare three-conductor fan connector and plug that into the Nexus? I searched Anandtech and found reports that the Volcano and Nexus are incompatible but I haven't heard of anyone doing any mods to make it work... should I go for it? Can it work?

Nevermind, I found an answer here:

The Nexus was hooked to the power cable of my Volcano 7+. I was in for a rude awakening when I did this for the NXP-101 has a very loud alarm, almost as loud as a smoke alarm. The alarm is triggered by a lack of RPMs from the fan. Of course the Volcano 7+ uses and RPM cable so the RPMs did not register with the Nexus. I had to modify my Volcano 7+ by pulling the RPM sensing lead out of its connector and inserting it into the power connector. If you have a fan with a RPM sensing cable you will have to do this as well.

(I'm posting this in case anyone has the same problem and finds this post). I ripped the yellow wire out of the plug and shoved it in the other connector, and it works fine.
