I just recently moved from AZ to NH. The percentage of people with vanity plates here in NH is crazy. It seems like 40% of cars I see with NH plates are vanity... I don't get it. I've never understood, paying extra money to have my license plate say something, especially if its stupid. I've seen this one car with the plate "GOOGLIT" wtf?

Do lots of people have vanity plates where you are? thoughts?

I think two things:

1) most of them are douchey
2) easy to identify and remember the plate

Though I have thought about 0FUXGVN on the Cobra 😀

i saw someone locally who had WTFBBQ thought that was pretty funny. i've defniitely seen a handful of "nerd" plates like that. i always get a kick out of them.

What a ridiculous idea...

There's a few around. Our company GM had GETAMPD on his Prius.

I have one that has the logo of the university I went to on it. Yeah, that's going when I get my next car.

my dad was a urologist and always had a vanity plate. i can remember a few

IHELPUP (my favorite)
CME2PEE

he always wanted to have COCKDOC but i don't think he actually tried to get that one through because he didn't think it would be approved.

i remember we were at a traffic light one time and 2 older women in the car next to us rolled down their window and asked my dad if he was a urologist. it was pretty amusing.

I had waggy and E wag 1.

though i just got a van and i have a bunch of numbers. thinking of getting waggy again

Why did your dad go into urology?

I notice more in VA than I do in MD or DC. I don't see the issue with it, it's just a license plate.

Back in the 80's VA had the highest vanity plate percentage than any state.

It is a way to express yourself/declare you identify a little more

There are a lot of douche ones. I saw an Aston Martin with the vanity plate "ASTON". Yeah dude, we know, holy shit. And a BMW 3-series (not even an M3) with the plate BMW-3.

Easier to remember? Every now and again you get asked what your plate number is for various forms or applications, and it's easier to remember a name you chose rather than a random letter & number combination.

There is also a Chevy Volt around here that is "SOCLIST"... or something like that with Obama Stickers all over it. sigh...

I see a few around too. Years ago Calif DMV rejected my request for ORG MAN plates for being unacceptable even though it wa available. I think PAR T MAN was available when I checked many years ago but I didn't go through with it, it seems too tame. Never had a vanity set yet.

Around here they farmed out custom plates to myplates.com. Now you have to pay something like $300/year for 7 letters where before it was <$50/year for a state-issued plate. Ergo I'm no longer interested.

Back in Ohio my plate was PLUNDER.

Yes there are lots, and 99% of the time the driver is either inattentive or just a bad driver in general. I usually avoid cars that have vanity plates for that reason, doubly so if it is a Mini.

my plates say jamon1t, Jam On It's my favorite song growing up. jamonit was already taken I think I spent about an hour trying to come up with other plates, I was dumbfounded at how many were already taken. I got to where I was trying what I considered gibberish ones, and sure enough even those were taken.
