Take a few former EQ1 Devs, a sprinkling of former EQ2 devs, a handful of former WoW devs, and you get Vanguard: SOH I for one think this game is going to be amazing, only time will tell.

This link has a ton of information on some of the features in the game. Supposedly the largest game world in an MMO to date.
 
from what i hear the creator is a major asshole, bashing other companies and their games.
plus it sounds like another raid/grindfest.

SOE is far from running it, SOE is hardware only, or at least thats all they are at this point. According to SIGIL SOE has not creative input at all, they only are handling Servers and billing.

Read between the lines. Sony is a virulent poison, they'll find an entry and seep into Vanguard, infecting it, ruining it. I had been looking forward to this title since 2003 and I was absolutely crushed when I heard the news. I won't be buying it now because of this. Look at the craptacular site Sony's already put up for it - Link.

How do you think of EQ? A boring grind with nothing to do at the end but raid? That's what it became when its lead developer left to work on Vanguard and Sony took over. Few people played prior to that and experienced how wonderful it was, so it has really gotten a bad and undeserved reputation over the years.

Thats what WoW was from Day 1, except for they added item grinding into the mix.

Here is the official site for Vanguard SoH, by the way.

SOE is just providing the hardware for VSOH. Say what you will about SOE, their servers very rarely go down.

Sigil still handles all the creative aspects of the game.

Agreed, with Tigole in charge how could WoW be anything but? Unfortunately it's the best of what's out there. And credit where it's due - WoW's interface system is a thing of beauty.

Again, read between the lines. Sony will find a way in. They've already gone around Brad and made that godawful site I linked. They can't be stopped. They'll ruin Vanguard - mark my words.

WoW's interface blows, thing of beauty my butt. Without the aftermarket mods and overlays, its useless. Only a handful of toolbars, no ingame custimization, yck. The unofficial overlays and mods fix a lot of these issues though. EQ2's interface is 100% customizable right out of the box.

If WoW is best MMO out there, as you say, then the MMORPG genre is dead on its feet. 🙁

Er, yeah... what I mean is the way it encourages and embraces a 3rd party addon community is what's beautiful. The specific rules about what addons can and cannot do, the interface it has with addons and the outreach to writers. Many addons even make it into the default UI. The default interface can suck horribly (and does) because of this - it lets you decide what you want rather than trying to tell you what you should want, instead giving you only the basics.

If WoW is best MMO out there, as you say, then the MMORPG genre is dead on its feet. 🙁

Selective reading comprehension? I said WoW is far from perfect, that it's sad something so lame is the best thing out there, and yet somehow that translates to "everything Blizzard does is right"? 😕

Ditto, I'm also curious if they'll reboot the servers everyday, like they did in SWG, or not; since I'll be working compressed night shift.

Wait a minute. What are all of you do in an MMORPG? touching and tweaking the interfaces all day long? Before I chose to play WoW, I look around. EQ2, Lineage, FFXI, WoW, etc.. are all great. They all has there pros and cons, but isn't the main gist of MMORPGs are for you to play? Even if it grinding or questing or whatever, but I'm pretty darn sure it's not about tweaking the game's interface. Also, with all the current MMORPGs, isn't the end-game raid a pretty cool thing? Isn't there PVP? What else does anyone of you who said that "end-game raid and item" could want more in an MMORPG?

In reponse to the original poster, I'll definately check it out. But my first impression so far by looking at the trailers, is that the combat flow is kind of slow. But we'll have to wait and see.

Edit: Has any of you play the "free" MMORPGs? compare that to WoW, EQ2, Lineage2, Vanguard, etc... I've try a lot of the popular "free" MMORPGs, but they lack the quality when compare to the games that are mention in this post.

I think you misunderstand - I said WoW's interface system is great, not that it's the reason WoW is the best of what's out there. WoW is the best of what's out there because it's mediocre while everything else pretty much blows goats.
