Vanderbilt Football Players Convicted of Rape

http://espn.go.com/college-football...ers-brandon-vandenburg-cory-batey-guilty-rape

There are so many screwed up aspects to this story.

Girl passes out, gets raped by multiple people, wakes up the next day with no clue what happened, talks to one of the guys involved who tells her she was drunk and passed out so he took care of her all night, she sleeps with him voluntarily that day, etc. Finds out later there is a video of the incident from the night she passed out... etc. etc.

Gotta love their attempted defense:

A jury convicted two ex-Vanderbilt football players on Tuesday of raping a former student, rejecting claims that they were too drunk to know what they were doing and that a college culture of binge drinking and promiscuous sex should be blamed for the attack.

Classic new defense: Oh hey look, I was drunk and the culture here makes it seem like the thing to do after a party is to shove things into people when they're passed out and then pee on them while recording it.

It's fortunate this generation of kids enjoy recording everything that happens in their lives and then also sharing it with everyone in their lives. Otherwise I don't know how the jury would have convicted on this. Probably wouldn't even have made it to trial considering they are football players at a school in a major conference.

They deserve everything they'll eventually get.

Well when you're dumb enough to provide photographic evidence of yourself raping a passed out girl the regular defenses kind of go out the window. You might as well try a Hail Mary.

No question the entire act was a depraved sick move-But their lives-all 4 of the Defendants are over for all practical purposes.

They will do somewhere between 15 and 25 years w/o any possibility of early release--the Same as Murder(2nd degree)

I do feel bad for the families on all sides of this but have a hard time feeling much pity for the perps themselves.

I guess they will find out how it feels to be raped. Vandy is not cheap and these dumbshits probably threw away about $200,000 each in scholarship money.

There are two more involved whose trials have not been set. These guys must be pissing their pants now. Although they were not as culpable as these first two....they will probably end up getting raped in prison as well.

Batey was stoic, staring ahead and Vandenburg shook his head "no,'' appearing stunned. His father had an outburst and abruptly left the courtroom.

Was the outburst something to the effect of "Do you know who we are? We're too rich and white for this to possibly have been allowed to have happened in a courtroom!"

(Which is funny because Cory Batey isn't white)

Too drunk to know what you were doing? What kind of dumbass claim is that lol. So I guess if I get in a wreck and blow a .25 BAC I can claim I was "too drunk to know what I was doing" when I drank that 5th of whiskey and got behind the wheel.

What in don't get is why do these women want to associate with such men, and why get drunk to the point of unconsciousness in a group of strange men.

Don't parents teach their daughters common sense, this is not new, this happens all the time in college.

glad they got busted for it however this is boggling my mind

girl: what happened last night I blacked out?
guy: uhhh nothing
girl: cool lets fuck

In my experience these are the girls who had parents that completely and totally sheltered them from all evil their entire lives. BOYS ARE BAD. ALCOHOL IS BAD.

Then when they go off to college they have no idea what effect alcohol has on them, how much they really should drink, and are anxious to find out what this sex thing is and don't fully understand how malicious a drunk and horny 20 year old football player can be.

It's just a bad situation.

I think she had been dating Vandenburg for a little time prior to this happening. I'm also not convinced that she was just drunk and passed out. It looks to me as if she had been drugged. They were unable to show this though because by the time she found out what happened, it was out of her system.

Even more strange are the girls that I know that have sympathy for the rapists. I had a friend tell me that they shouldn't be convicted because "its not like they jumped out of the bushes and raped her!"

I think they will probably get 16-18 years (Range one standard offenders are subject to 15-20 years on a class A felony in TN) which they will have to serve day for day.

Of course they are trying this "defense". They assaulted, humiliated, raped and peed on her - they clearly have NO regard or respect for the victim here.

It's fortunate this generation of kids enjoy recording everything that happens in their lives and then also sharing it with everyone in their lives.

I would prefer they didn't rape and urinate on an unconscious woman.

I'd prefer that too. I'd also prefer that every day would be 70 degrees, sunny, and rainbows.

One of the more common symptoms of Affluenza.

Don't parents teach their sons common sense? Why didn't their fathers pull them aside and say, "Don't rape someone and videotape yourself doing it, or not only will your mother and I disown you, I will personally chop off your balls and choke you to death with them."? Getting drunk and passing out is pretty common in college; if you think that women shouldn't do that because, "hey, guys will just rape the shit outta you because common sense," you're part of the problem and you need to seriously examine why you place ANY blame on the victim in a case like this.

There are always going to be rapists. What I don't get is the need to film something like this. I would think if I was up to no good I'd make sure there was as little evidence as possible.

that applies to a lot of criminals, who film, take pictures and or brag on social media about their misdeeds

Do you have a Head Injury??
Rich and White?
They are from Indio, CA--Vandenburg went to College of the Desert.

Rich and White, HaHa!!

One thing for sure: Branden is Stupid and will spend a Long Time in Prison--More time than a Murderer!!

Pretty much this.

As the parent of a teenage daughter we have been pretty brutally honest with her. However, one day I realized that she was only really getting a female perspective of everything from my wife. So, one day I sat my teenage daughter down and told her that basically any male has about two seconds to stop whatever he's doing if she says "stop" or "no" and then she should immediately begin to apply pain with increasing frequency and brutality.

I also cautioned her that once she did, she'd better be ready to absolutely consider gouging out eyeballs, twisting and or biting anything and everything from that point forward. Skin and blood under nails and in teeth would be preferrable. Also told her that even then, some men might not stop, but she'd better be ready to go into complete fight mode within seconds of saying "no" or "stop".

She's also been taught to NEVER drink a drink from just anyone. To watch the bartender make the drink and the second she feels something is "wrong" to egress, seek help, and get to a safe place. I can only hope she abides by this training so I don't have to harm someone needlessly one day.

PS - I have a young son, one day he will get the opposite end of the talk. It will be summarized along the lines of "If you stick any part of you in anyone that says they don't want you to, I'll fuck you up bad enough that I will gladly pay the hospital bills. Got it boy?"
