In a nutshell this is how I've come to reconcile my dilemma with Trumpsters who steadfastly deny the fact that Trump is simply the wrong guy for the job in every way possible by paraphrasing something I recall reading or hearing somewhere awhile ago. I read something recently that made a lot of this make more sense to me - that conservatives don't view truth as necessarily being factual truth but more in a sense of loyalty and fidelity to a person or a movement. So in this case it doesn't matter if Trump did various awful things - staying loyal to the team is what matters.

That's the kind of attitude Trump's cultists have acquired in order to defend their decision to consecrate his elevation as their Saint and justify their loyalty to a convicted felon and sex abuser. Every accusation levied against Trump is a finger pointing directly at his disciples and they don't take kindly to that.

It may have started with minor criticisms of Trump where some manner of defending him seemed justifiable, however from thereon in when Trump's personality disorders escalated his minor "forgivable" faults into major crimes against the Constitution and Rule of Law, his loyalists doubled down and stuck with him leaving them wide open for justifiable criticisms that by then was too late for them to abandon Trump and admit the errors of their ways.

At that point what else can they do but go all in, take the hits, defend the indefensible and lock the doors behind them, accepting the fact that no matter how badly Trump further incriminates himself by his own word and deed, it became way too late to exit the insane asylum without being noticed and be labeled as traitors by his base of racist nationalist militarist stalwarts.
