The Coverdale thing was only a rumor, never was it real.

They did get back with Roth briefly in 2000 and recorded several new demos, but things fell apart once again.

I saw them with DLR many, many years ago. Never saw sammy but DLR rocked the show!!
I've seen them twice with all 3 singers. Never saw a bad show. DLR was the man back in the day, but Sammy is the better singer by far today.

Van Halen returning...that's like saying "Metallica has a new album out"

good point

its better that metallica dont make new stuff so that ppl remember them from their past good days and not their new wannabe alternative sound

Look up Van Halen's past album sales and you'll see who gives a shlt. Lots and lots of people.

and if you make a line graph, how steep and in which direction do you suppose the curve is going? 🙂

If you stop at the last Sammy album, they were selling big every time. The Gary Cherone album didn't sell that great, but the tour was pretty big.
Sammy is consistently filling medium to large venues solo, even without having a big label to push his albums the last few years.
VH w/Sammy is going to be big. Every album w/Sammy hit the charts at #1. The fans didn't like VH w/Gary, and their record sales showed it.
I actually think that VH w/Dave would be the biggest thing since the first KISS reunion in 1996 initially, but after seeing Dave in concert now, I don't think it would last. He's good, but not great now.
I'm just ready to hear the world's greatest guitarist put out some new tunes.

I saw them on their first national tour in a 1200 seat venue opening for AC/DC. Awesome show. It never got any better from there but that is just my opinion.

When Dave left or was fired the band really sucked.......Sammy Hagar is better as a solo artist.
Yeah, they sucked, that's why they sold more albums worldwide than w/Dave. That's why EVERY album w/Sammy debuted at #1 and they never had a #1 album w/Dave.
I loved the Dave era, too, that's when I got hooked on VH. But today's Dave is a mere shadow of the old Dave.....and Sammy's pipes are just as good today as they were in 1986.

I thoght Eddie was real sick with prostate cancer.... This was reported solidly for about 2 weeks when Valerie divorced him. That leads me to believe that this might be bogus.

Eddie never did understand that the original VH was much more than the sum of its parts. With Dave, they were a great band with incredible chemistry. With anyone else, they're a mediocre band with a hot guitar player buried under a zillion overdubs and keyboards.

Truth is, most rockers - even the really great ones - only have so much good music in them.

I don't really care about album sales though, I meant musically most people thought they sucked when Dave left. I was a fan of Sammy Hagar solo act but didn't like the Van-Hagar combo.

I have to agree with Mrburns. I loved Sammy solo and even before that with Montrose. But I loved VH with Dave and after he left, the new VH with Sammy just sounded too pop and i never took to any of the new albums.

He had cancer on his tongue, had part of it removed, but was drinking again when Valerie left. He is, as of about a year and a half ago, supposed to be 100% healthy.

You obviously didn't see where I said WORLDWIDE sales. Those are US only figures.
VH has sold well over 50 million with Hagar. Plus you missed the live album.
I can respect that you didn't like Van Hagar as much. That's fine.
But, people who say all VH did with Sammy was write keyboard-based pop songs simply don't know what they're talking about. Sammy didn't write the music, just the words. They would've had the keyboard songs if Dave hadn't quit....which they did on the last album with him anyway.
Anyway, there are way more rocking songs w/Sammy than there are keyboard songs, that was my point. Everyone thinks VH went pop w/Sammy because the keyboard songs are the ones that generally make the radio.
But, if you look at the last couple of albums, VH was getting progressively harder rocking over time.
Either way, I'm happy about their return.
