When Dave left or was fired the band really sucked.......Sammy Hagar is better as a solo artist.
Yeah, they sucked, that's why they sold more albums worldwide than w/Dave. That's why EVERY album w/Sammy debuted at #1 and they never had a #1 album w/Dave.
I loved the Dave era, too, that's when I got hooked on VH. But today's Dave is a mere shadow of the old Dave.....and Sammy's pipes are just as good today as they were in 1986.

I don't really care about album sales though, I meant musically most people thought they sucked when Dave left. I was a fan of Sammy Hagar solo act but didn't like the Van-Hagar combo.
You obviously didn't see where I said WORLDWIDE sales. Those are US only figures.
VH has sold well over 50 million with Hagar. Plus you missed the live album.
I can respect that you didn't like Van Hagar as much. That's fine.
But, people who say all VH did with Sammy was write keyboard-based pop songs simply don't know what they're talking about. Sammy didn't write the music, just the words. They would've had the keyboard songs if Dave hadn't quit....which they did on the last album with him anyway.
Anyway, there are way more rocking songs w/Sammy than there are keyboard songs, that was my point. Everyone thinks VH went pop w/Sammy because the keyboard songs are the ones that generally make the radio.
But, if you look at the last couple of albums, VH was getting progressively harder rocking over time.
Either way, I'm happy about their return.
