This thread made me re-download the game; I bought it a few years ago.

Now I can't install. I guess it's a Win7 64 bit problem.

No matter what I try the message "disc has less than 15mb" comes up.

great - another scavenger hunt.

I bit. Been meaning to check this game out for some time.

My point earlier was more about if they fired the employees who made it, and the company is no longer around, then someone else is making money off their work. Sure distributors need paid too, but they already got paid. Personally I think the whole system is screwy and corrupted.

Install the fan patch. It fixes the memory error on startup.

I understand, but in this case Activision paid Troika to do the development, it wasn't that Troika paid for it and then Activision just distributed it. It wasn't a hit on release so Activision probably lost money on it at the time.

They also didn't fire any Troika employees, they would just have stopped giving Troika more advances against future royalties at some point, probably after the low sales numbers came in. Then it was Troika who said "sorry we're broke, goodbye" to their staff.

If Troika still existed the company (but probably not most employees) might get some kind of royalties, but only after Activision sells enough to cover what they'd already paid Troika in advances.

So Activision making money of this doesn't bother me. Without them paying White Wolf for the license and hiring Troika to make the game, it never would have existed.

Works on W7 x64. Installed the patch...I think it is there, not sure if it is or not. Also installed widescreen patch, works good, but combat when not in first person is off. It doesn't attack there i have the cursor, it attacks to the side. I also can't seem to lock it in first person mode.

It's alright so far I guess.

You should stay in third-person for melee, and only use first-person for guns. And guns are pretty much worthless in the beginning of the game compared to a tire iron or bat given your strength.

Doesn't work.

The game won't install, so the patcher can't update it. The patcher asks to create the file.

Of course, I am a moran offen, so I may missed a simple step somewhere.

Any ideas?

This patch - Link is focused on bug fixes only, and restoring some content that didn't make it with the retail game because of the rushed nature of its release. The other patch here - Link has a number of alterations to the base game that this patch maker felt were necessary, but aren't necessarily in line with the intent of the game creators.

I would use the True Patch Gold version (first one I linked) personally, and if you want to play again a second time with something more akin to a mod (which is what the 2nd link is) then the other "unofficial patch" would be a good option.

Game won't install? If you're getting that error, it's already installed. You need to install the patch to your steam directory, not the one that the installer chooses automatically.

Damnit people! I was trying to limit my steam sales, but looks like this is another one I'll have to pick up, even if I don't get to play it for a year or two. :p

I'm playing now with the Gold patch (my previous two playthroughs were with the Plus patch), and I think I prefer the modded Plus. Unmodded, Dexterity is kinda useless since you can Blood Buff it up to 5 for lockpicking, and the other thing it modifies (stealth) isn't that important. Also the Plus patch gets rid of the Book exploit where you can sell a skill book to a vendor and then buy it back twice, saving you a ton of XP. Other than adding a few quests I don't think it mods the game in any other way.
