Given the multiple families in the vampire mythos ie Vampire the Masquerade. A MMO might make an interesting addition. You would have to decide about day/night sequencing and timing (certainly couldn't be realtime-to many MMO fans staying up all night as it is) You could add in Lychantropes as well. Like "the Masquerade" staying under the radar and maintaining humanity could make for some interesting game play.

One possibility could be shifting aliances between families, one month you may be friends, the next enemies. Also imagine having 6 or so factions instead of 2.

Thoughts?

how exactly would that work in an MMO? i don't see how that would work exactly. It would take you like 10x as long to complete stuff

As in the single player game, only open combat with humans viewed by witnesses would alert the authorities and ultimately secret vampire hunters to seek you out. Feeding on humans is necessary but killing inocent humans caused the player to lose humanity and increase hunger/lose control.

Combat systems would be similiar to current MMO's, with hand to hand, some ranged modern weapons and occult/magical/charm/shapechange abilities.

PVP would probably be similiar to current MMO's but more than 2 factions. Maybe with some friendly-other faction combat which would cause your faction to punish you (ie lack of services-higher prices for which you would have to earn back).

This sound like what you're looking for? CCP and White Wolf merged in 2006, and the World of Darkness MMO is one of their big projects.

REALLY HORRIBLE IDEA unless you enjoy the company of the average emo neckbearded Vampire LARPer, because they will take over a Vampire MMO.

Disclaimer: I know a few friends who do Vampire LARP and they're good people, but I've met a lot more who are basically scum. I'm not sure why, but Vampire tends to draw the kind of people who buy and regularly use the Book of Erotic Fantasy for D&D.

+1 CCP and Whitewolf are in the early stages of planning for their World of Darkness MMO. Though the game will be based on the "New WOD" PnP game which is not what VTMB was based on at all. Oh and yes there are several more factions in WoD in general aside form Vamps and Humans.

I think it sounds badass if they could implement it well enough.

A fully realized nWoD game would be awesome. Characters would be Hunters (your humans), Vampires, Werewolves, Promethians (think frankenstein), Changlins (fae), and Mages. Then of course each would have all their different factions. Fully open PvP, though typically you wouldn't fight as much against your own faction as against others.

To fully impliment though would be nearly impossible to balance and get right.

Well the pvp portion would need passive or active mechanisms to ensure it was not a out right lore breaking gankfest. The reason being is that open warfare on the streets amongst the general population of normal humans by these groups is very much frowned upon as it can and will draw a lot of attention. The whole WoD premise is about a hidden underworld of secret politics, cabals, power struggles, etc amongst these groups vying to become the top predator or trying to stay off the diner table/chopping block so to speak.
