Valves are clacking a bit.

Got my header/exhaust manifold changed today, and now my valves are clacking a little. Is it hard to adjust your valves, could I do it my self with lots of reading and free time?

Thanks.

great.. you got like 16 valves to do.. I got 4 on my bike and that's a pain in teh butt to do.. i can imagine 16.

wait it might be differnet type of valve adjusting.. i got a shim over bucket.. oh well..

my mechanic friend has always said do an valve adjustment past 100K .. to keep things in spec if there is too much noise.

What engine? I can look up the specs, or get a factory service manual from the dealer. WIll save you SOOOOOOO much time, wondering what this and what that. Torque specs, valve clearances, everything is in the book. So go get one. If it was a hydraulic valve system (with it being a newer import I am guessing not, not that aquanted with timing chains and variable valve timing and the like.) with pushrods and tappets, I would say the lifters and cam need to go, new cams and old lifters are bad news.

get a bottle of Restore (napa carries it, and many other chain parts stores) and add it to your oil, run it for 500 miles, and change your oil, if the problem returns after you change your oil have them adjusted. if it stays fixed, then you just had some gunk on them throwing the balance off of the throw.

Hmmm, I thought that stuff was to just unstick stuck rings to improve compression? If you want to remove carbon, have a freinds rev it till 1500 and pour sea foam in till it stalls, do not do this in the neigborhood, the resulting smoke cloud will rival the m1a2 diesel cloud.

EDIT: By pouring in the PCV valve I meant pulling the hose off of and pouring it in to the hose which should run to the intake.

NO, NO, NO. We do NOT add junk to our oil. That is BAD. The ONLY thing that can reasonably be added to oil is molybdenum disulfide. Anything else should NEVER be put into the oiling system.

I fixed the post, didnt mean the oil, it is meant to be burnt in the cylinders 🙂
And it works, VERY WELL, for its purpose, removing carbon build up. I can point you to at least 20 threads on another forum about how wonderfull it is.

If I were replying to your post, I would have quoted it. Reading comprehension. Learn it.
