Not sure why you would ever play this game on a console anyway.

KT

Well I'd much rather play it on a console cuz I'm not willing to sit at a computer desk for 8 hours at work then go home and do it on my free time too.

Amen to that.. Feel the exact same way.

Also, this would be a terrible decision on Valve's part. You shouldn't have to pay for fixes to a game that are inherently part of the games problems in the first place. DLC adds enhancements or added features to the game. Patches add bug fixes and playability/stability. When you are buying the game, you should be buying a lifetime of patches because the problems are the developers fault in the first place.

Ummm... patches have been and will remain to be free. They were just talking about charging for extra DLC. The issue is that this DLC is free on the PC, and not on the 360.

MS tends to charge for DLC on release unless it's available free on the PS3 (like with a Rainbow 6 map pack IIRC). If MS considers this new content instead of a bugfix patch, then points must be paid.

Not necessarily true. MS makes content free if it is available on the PC for free as well.

I dont remember have to pay for the gears of war map packs either.

Oh.. In that case, I apologize for digging up the topic..

If the DLC is prime content and is worth paying for, I'd bite. Just as long as prices remain reasonable.

If the content is terrible, forget about it.

1. I don't understand how Valve is being "forced" to do this. Are the console makers charging Valve extra for creating console patches or something?

2. It's a terrible precedent. How long before Valve (or other software makers) start charging for bug patches? They can put minor new content into a patch, and say "oh, by the way, this new DLC also fixes that one problem that makes the game unplayable." It's very probably that this won't stop at just TF2.

3. As pointed out, it will alienate a user base. If version 1.0 is not compatible with version 2.x, and you have to pay to upgrade to 2.x, a lot of people aren't going to be willing to pay this on top of buying the original game.

I think you're in tinfoil hat territory there.

Is it really that different from Microsoft dropping Win9x/2000/XP support and forcing people to "upgrade" to Vista? "Vista has lots of new content, but also addresses bug fixes and security holes." How many businesses want to switch to Vista just 'cuz it looks prettier?

They could charge for bug patches for all I care. The market would surely punish them I think thanks to the copious number of uninventive games in their genre.

Well then either the writer or valve is confused. If they want to charge for patches on a broken game: you're out of your mind. If you want to charge for a new map/weapon: nothing wrong with that.

Instead of being a troll in the console forum, why don't you go do your job in the PC forum?

Seriously, when did it become OK for mods to troll?

I wouldn't really call that trolling. The console version is pretty inferior to the PC version. Valve makes PC games and releases console versions as afterthought.

Either way this is what convinced me to buy Left 4 dead (which is awesome btw) on the PC rather than the 360.

pandoras box was opened way back when "source" came out and then all the good mods got bought out in the name of more money.
