Every Valve game I've tried to play from steam has completely failed. I start up either Half life: lost coast or death match. Both don't work. The move on to Counter strike source, and yup. It doesn't work with the same exact error. The error reads as: Engine Error, Platform Error: module failed to initialize. This is complete bullshit considering I payed for these games and they fail for no reason. Any help or hints would be appreciated as to how to fix it. I'm running Win7 64bit with a radeon 5850

Try this...

Close Steam.
Go to Program Files/Steam and delete ClientRegistry.blob
Now start up Steam, it will now update Steam

Google is your friend... :)

I have been having nothing but trouble from steam ever since I went to Win7 64. I think things have finally gotten fixed. I was having to run steam, kill the process, run steam again... hopefully not get an error, then play the game. If I wanted to play a second game I would have to close steam and start over. And when I first installed the client it kept failing on the updates. Eventually I found the solution online... but a pain in the ass.

They aren't failing for no reason. There is something causing it, whether that be you are using an up to the minute cutting edge operating system and they arent ready for it or its a botched install etc. In any case, valve does have tech support so before you go shooting off your mouth acting like a spoiled child try contacting them or trying the suggestions given by the members here.
